You'd think they'd advertise that they did this.  Wonder why the hush hush. Also saw that they are saying early Feb. now for our "last" chance at a salmon now.

When I was a kid someone pulled a big pike through the ice on the Charles in Newton and it made the front page of the Boston Globe. No one seemed to know they'd been put in there…. 'course that was pre-internet. I like secret stocking programs. Let the population get established before word gets out.

Im pretty sure the stockings were done by private groups not the state.  I know the lions club pays for Quabog stockings with fundraising money.  I am not sure about Quinsig.

Its on the mass wildlife site. I dont think they would list it there if it was a club stocking.

I am pretty sure that even if a club did the stocking the state would recognize it because it is a public body of water.  I could be wrong im going off hearsay

Wasn't Quaboag stocked privately for a few years around 05-06? If so, then those stockings are not listed.

Yes Quabog was stocked by a spencer club club... 1 yr 18''-24'' then next year  smaller fish ..

I contacted F+W to see what they had to say about the stocking and here was the reply I got:

"The Division was fortunate to obtain some surplus northern pike from New Jersey Fish and Wildlife's Hackettstown State Fish Hatchery last spring.  The Division has a cooperative program with New Jersey for surplus northern pike when they are available and this year for first time since 2008 we were able to get some.  As you probably are aware, the Division does not have a hatchery that can grow northern pike as our hatcheries are all cold water facilities designed for raising trout and salmon.
Lake Quinsigamond was stocked last April with approximately 19,000 northern pike fry that averaged 3 inches long.  Quaboag Pond was stocked in May with approximately 6,400 northern pike fingerlings that averaged 5.5 inches long.  Both lots were quality fish so we are hopeful that some will return to the creel in the next 3 to 5 years."

Sounds good to me  ;D

I wonder if that beast caught over the weekend was one of those 19000 pike fry thrown in in April. I heard that Quinsig water has some funny sh*t in it   ;D

Back in the days, back before the innerweb thingy, you could get all the info you needed from the F&G office where you bought your license.
I and my dad used to get pond maps for all the ponds we were planning on fishing and a listing of the stocked waters when we bought our licenses. At the time we wuld get them at Curtis Hall in Jamaica Plain or the Saltenstall Building in downtown Boston.

Of course that was when a license was $17.50 and a $5.00 wildlife stamp was "optional" and not mandatory!

If you wanted to know, all you had to do was ask, and if they had it you could get a copy!
They changed it to a 5 map limit, but you could request more from them through the mail.

Now you can get maps of virtually every considerable body of water in the state.
Those that they don't have, you can find using a map and a sense of adventure!
