TROUT FISHIN.......BEST BAIT / DEPTH

Just wondering what everyone thinks about best bait and water depth to rig at.  Fishn trout is a new task for me.

If I were you I would get a mix of night crawlers, meal worms and power bait.   Small hook and light floro leaders.  6' under the ice.

I am sure many other much more expereicned folks will chime in but, that is what has worked for me in 2011 thus far.

med shiners in 10 ft of water or less, I prefer to jig for trout through the ice, I find it more effective.

Rainbows like to cruise just under the ice, so if that's what you're after, find shallow water and setup just under the ice.
Trout will take most offerings if they are presented in the right manner.
Pin shiners (small), half a crawler or a whold trout worm, a few mealies or grubs all of which should be rigged on a #8-#12 hook.
The hook size will depend on the bait size.

I find that trout become more active the closer you get to spring, but that's just my experience.

Good luck, and don't forget micro tubes (red/white) and small castmaster spoons or swedish pimples for a more active jigging experience.
