Woods Perch slam
« on: Feb 09, 2009, 06:42 PM »
Hit up woods pond in search of some pike with my dad. Arrived at 7am, fished till 4:30.
While the Pike did not co-operate, though we did have some hit and runs, the perch bite was hot once i figured out what they wanted. I went through almost my entire jig box before i found the right color and size jig they wanted.

I Also manged to land a couple crappie and a few gills as well. Largest perch measured out at 12 inches, and weiged in at 1.3 lbs on the digital.

Russell had a tough time of it, while he could see the fish on his vex, they were not as coopertative. He finally figured it out and managed to land some gills, perch and crappie as well.
Kept the fish in a live well to snap the pic, then they were all released back to the wild. Didn't want to glow in the dark tonight.

You don't want to be eating these fish...Place is loaded with PCB's from the old kodak factory.  definitly not the place you want to eat fish from.

Great report.  Finding what the want is always a challenge.  Looks like a great catch, love the picture.   The best part is getting to be out there with your dad.  How wonderful is that?

Pikeking, if you look to the right of me in the picture, you will see a net on the ground next to me, It's actually a live well you place down the hole to keep fish in.  It does a great job keeping them alive.  after i emptied the net, we took a quick picture, and they all went back down the hole, and swam away.

Got that live well net here   http://todaystackle.com/icewell.html

They pay off when you are keeping some fish for the dinner plate, of if your fishing a live weigh in derby.  During derby's i often fish far away from weigh points, and i keep my fish in the net till final weigh in time, then transport them in to be weighed.  I don't have an atv or sled and it keeps me from making runs back and forth.

Thumper: He doesn't walk very good, does he?
Mrs. Rabbit: Thumper!
Thumper: Yes, mama?
Mrs. Rabbit: What did your father tell you this morning?
Thumper: [clears throat] If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all.
