Hi.

Can such a reel be found?

Gear ratio 2.6:1 and upwards, free spool, drag and left hand retrieve can be found in Eagle Claws Ice reel or 13 Fishings Black Betty amongst others.

The problem with them (for me) is that when you palm the reel with your right hand whilst fishing, you´re actually holding the spool. When you get a bite you have to let go and just hold the rod with thumb and index finger thus letting the spool free.

The Frabill 241 has a solid side (outside of the spool) but the reviews on that reel are very bad when it comes to drag, line getting caught inside the spool etc.

If one searches outside of the box, for example google RAFT reel, aliexpress.com (Chinese) has some interesting versions but still not what im looking for (no solid sides to hold on to)...

Any ideas?

  • LX5 or die...maybe extra battery.
Go with a baitcaster, preferably a low profile one.

Looking at the pictures it seems spinning the handle will turn the spool and if your gripping near it will hit your hand on the left side too.   The Frabil 241 is the only one that doesnt but its poorly designed and heavy clunk.
