why buy ice tongs for??
« on: Jan 18, 2009, 02:32 PM »
Why waste money on tongs when all you have to do is take your spud and push the ice block under the ice. That is what we do with ours. But maybe someone could tell me why do you need to use tongs to remove ice. Why remove it out of the water in the first place?

1. In shallow water the block of ice below the ice could spook them.
and
2. You can put it back when your done.

I do it so I can get the hole to freeze up faster when I leave. It helps the curious young ones and others from taking a swim. Tongs are $45.00. Not too bad.

I posted this question and the only reason for taking out the block when you use a permanent shanty is because of the first statement above= 1. In shallow water the block of ice below the ice could spook them.

Here is the Thread that I posted:

I guess I'll beat the dead horse one more time,(take that you @!#%*!! horse) but we cut through 30+ inches last week, and considering I usually cut a crooked hole :embarassed: it gets very hard to push a chunk that size back under the ice.  I also use a portable, and like it's been said, leaving an open hole in the ice is a bit dangerous. (Had enough you #@*!! horse?) :)

I use tongs because they were my grandfathers that he use to use to retrieve the ice blocks out of the creek that they use to use for refridgeration and i cant think of any other use for them except to help treat my icefishing disease and because they are COOL
