I have the FL18 and you can use the double echo technique to locate hard/soft bottom .

i did know this.use it on my fl20 and 22.i prefer muck bottom for panfish species.

For perch the mucky/sticky bottom holds the bloodworms ...especially on the flat after the break/drop off. ;)2

Not sure if someone has this video still or can speak to how you use this but the video isnt working so curious how to use the hardness reading 1-9 option?
