...done what I had done last year. It is a pity there are no pics as my buddy dropped his camera down a hole from laughing so hard. Well, I had truied tolearn as much as I could from any source at all, so, paying strict attention to movies such as Grumpy Ol Men, I believed it was perfectly fine to drill with one's auger inside a shack. I started my auger and entered the brand new portable HT pop-up my wife bought me for Christmas. I drilled a hole and was just removing the auger from the hole when the wind blew and the flap from the tent became caught on the spinning auger blade. I know it did because everything was moving in slow motion from the shock. The teeth on the old Jiffy blade caught the flap like an ex-wife's lawyer mangles the truth and it sucked the tent off of the screw in tie-downs and pulled it off of the frame, and thn spun the whole tent into a ball, which went around the auger blade with a "whup-whup-whup" sound. My mouth hung open and I finally got the auger shut off. I was standing there with a giant ball on the end of the auger while tyh tent frame and screw in tie downs remained silently and ridiculously empty in perfect array. At first I did not hear the laughte due to the shock, but I did hear the splash when my budddie's camera entered the lake. It sank, and to this day he does not care that he lost the thing. He says anytime he needs a laugh, he just thinks back to the "whup-whup-whup." Hope this little ditty made you smile...I can laugh now, but back then it sucked. Oh, yeah, yes, this is a true story.

Sorry about your shelter, next time drill them holes before you put the shanty in place.

Sounds like we need to get Ice Shanty himself to give him some sort of award for dismantling his shanty without using his hands and in record time.

The tent is repairable, unlike my dignity for about a week after the " whup-whup event" (as it became known). It is bad enough I am a "flattie"(derisive tem for a non-Mainer) up here, but the silliness even follows me into the woods bowhunting...but THAT I'll save for another time. Suffice it to say, I now cary ointment with me...everywhere. Oh, by the way if anybody does check their videos from last December on the small side of Harlow and sees a tent just whup!....disappear...get that video to Hollywood...even I'd like to see how it looked.

Now that is a funny story! Hey we have all made mistakes out there and especially when your new to the sport so don't feel too bad! Your budy sounds like he came out the worst money wise since the shelter is okay but the camera is gone!

almost a killer a friend did the same thing but his shelter melted as it hit the heater he had lit and watched it stick to his coveralls
