Jibb's, Congratulations on the new to you furry friends.

We have the freezer filled and then some, I tagged 3 and Hawkeye got his license this year and got his first solo deer 4 min. into rifle.

I just picked up a 2 man portable (Nanook XL) to play around with this year.  I have been planning on going through all the tipups for 2 months now and have not managed that, I can use the excuse that I have been cutting up deer to justify some of the delay in ice fishing prep.

I wish the weather was looking more like growing ice weather.

I need to take the hunters apprentice deer lic before I pull the trigger for real. Its on my bucket list my father was not a hunter or an outdoorsman. Hearing you all talk about tagging all these deer gets me amped up to try.

If you can find the right someone to apprentice with that would be perfect however you can only hunt when they can take you.  If you are really interested, I would recommend taking an in person hunter safety class as you will learn a lot in the class and you will probably meet some of the instructors who might mentor you while you hunt on your own.  The good thing about deer hunting is it can be as simple as a quite walk in the woods or you can go down the BF rabbit hole of deer hunting, all of which is fun.  Gutting the deer is not much different than gutting a fish and there is more information that you will need on line and youtube.  I believe the commitment for the in person class is around 12 hrs plus a field day and an entry level gun that is completely suitable for deer hunting in NH can be had for less than $400.

Congrats on the retirement, George!

Jibbs, that's awesome of you! Those are some lucky pups. They look like they're settling right in. Hopefully they will be able to join you on a fine spring day. What are their names?

My new Clam came yesterday, but the instructions leave a bit to the imagination. After hollering at a piece of plastic and pulling out a hammer (not one of the recommended tools), I got to a good stopping point for tonight. The seat goes on tomorrow, and the cupholder is already in, so I might watch Grumpy Old Men in it tomorrow night. It's in the way of the couch anyway.

My shanty usually ends up in the kitchen this time of year... The hound is usually sitting in it watching me cook hoping for the stray scoobie snack...

when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

Thanks, 1st time in the woods, since placing my stand, been crazy busy, this season, in a spot I've hunted most of my life, had her at the check station by 9:30
. I'd rather  be lucky than good... I don't need no stinking horns!.. there's been a button buck showing on the game camera I still have 1 more anterlless tag I can fill.. he could be the next tender vitals.

I agree with the better lucky than good, pretty sure luck is the only reason I got a deer this year. Bumped him out of his bed and shot him from the ground (archery)....shot was a little far back. Found him the next morning, unscathed after seeing a bear and coyote within 500 yards of where he piled up.

It does, not enough can be said for the “Moosestache” and the good fortune it brings in the woods

Just got the Sitka Hudson Bibs and jacket in. Gonna be bad ass, you just can’t beat Sitka for the quality and the warmth with no bulk.

Sending the jacket back now in exchange for a Large, the XL I ordered is a tad big but Sitka usually runs small so I went up a size.

Anyone looking to buy these or anything from Sitka and are serious about it shoot me a pm and I can e mail you a 25% off code that needs to be used by the 12th

Jibbs, good for you taking in some furry friends. Sounds like they’re going to a great home. Here’s my attempt to transporting my pup out with me on the ice once the snowmobile is in use. Kennel with an insulated cover and insulated pad on the inside fits perfect in my jet sled xl.
