I would think it would be pretty sketchy yet. Small ponds not frozen here near Burwell yet. But I don't claim to know for sure

I went by Merritt this morning and almost all the lake is open water. The Beeds area looks to have a very thin ice covering but couldn't see back into the Boardman area. Some area ponds are covered and others have a little open water.    LP

Mr. Merritt posted this today.

There have been lots of inquiries on local ice conditions recently. I think we are fortunate that no appreciable ice had formed on the larger lakes and ponds prior to last weekend's 1/2" of rain and 11or so inches of snow. That rain would have eroded any ice that formed and the snow would have insulated it from a solid freeze down potentially causing a very unsafe ice base. This week's chilly temps on the open water should get us started in the right direction for the ice season. I won't yet speculate on where or when we will have safe ice other than to say sooner than later.

Anyone out there today? Didn't freeze and alot of wind overnight and today.  Hoping to get up there Friday if it doesn't melt.  The next week doesn't look good.

12/14..... should hold today but have concerns through the weekend. High of 50 and wind will cut six inches of ice in a hurry.

It can be a double edged sword.  :-\

Didn't lose any ground yesterday and temps got colder than predicted last night but it's going to be a rough next 8 days.

Too true! Hoping that  Whatever ice we have here goes away so we can start fresh if and when it cold again!
Got some new gear for the season that as I type is looking at me with a disgusted expression as if to say you got me so use me!  :o

First ice up here is like the energizer bunny,,,,it's still going. Forecast now is for rain on Wed with a 20mph breeze. That one will probably do us in but who knows, it's already held on longer than expected.

Good ice Saturday the 19th, 5 to 7 inches of hard ice on Dewey. Lot of fisherman on the lake but bite was real slow on pike, lot of small perch but only a few keepers. Caught several pike but took all day and plenty of dead time.

is there still plenty of ice on the refuge lakes for the next couple weeks with temps like we are having I would think the ice should stay around for a while yet.  Any reports would be greatly appreciated

We fished on the 21,22,and the 23rd. ice was good on Thursday and Friday. the wind blew Saturday and put some snow on the ice, we left Sunday morning as the wind was blowing snow. There will be some snow on the ice but after the front goes through it might be some good fishing.

Good Luck

I just got back from refuge lakes today.  3" of fresh snow made the walking difficult.  12-14" of ice on Dewey and it was slow.  Clear had 8" ice closer to shore and 4" ice towards the middle.  16" ice in cove with the outlet.  Fishing there was just average..neither slow nor were we hammering them.
