2018-2019 POP up Huts Comparison 12/17/18
« on: Dec 17, 2018, 03:06 PM »
After a lot of time clicking back and forth on the internet looking at pop up Ice fishing shelters, I finally decided to make a spreadsheet to compare them, because even the manufacturers do a poor job of comparing. I hope this helps someone save some time and make a good decision. These are not all but, the ones I was considering. Info from various websites from retailers.  Please verify the data, before buying as I said conflict abound when looking.
///EDIT -- Added The Otter XTH PRO (Lodge and Resort)

Not considering Otter XTH Pro?  I think they're probably the best quality out there with a price that is on par with all the other comparable sized ones.  Not saying the others are bad, just saying the XTH Pro has some nice touches like internal rod holders sewn into the walls and extra anchoring straps to keep it glued to the ice in the wind.

To bad that Polar Bird didn't make it in the U.S.
A very fine (quality and heavy duty) in my opinion. The floor in them are the dope....

I did a similar breakdown to a bunch of different types of shelters last year.

Where did you pull these specs from?  I ask because oddly enough I was on the Eskimo website and the weights listed on their website are not the same as the ones you have listed here.

949i is listed at 44 pounds (The 949 is 30 pounds)
6120i is listed at 55 pounds

When I threw mine together a year ago I found conflicting weights between different sites but the dimensions were consistent. After running into that I pulled the info right off of each company's website and also had a column listing the shipping weights that I pulled off of Amazon. Some of those were screwy as well where the product weight was heavier than the shipping weight. That's simply not possible.

Weight...I wonder how manufacture weighs it?
Just the shelter or with everything including anchors?

I added the Otters -- Sorry for the oversight, I was really focused in the 8'x8' or slightly larger, and the headroom, so I overlooked the lodge, not thinking the 76'' Would be tall enough if you were not in the dead center.  I wanted the Outbreak due to the full door, but that is a lot of area to heat.
Regarding The Polarbird, I did not look at it much due to the Floor. I Usually wear Cleats, and I figured they would trash the floor. If anyone know different let me know.
Feel free to add, I can put them in the table.
The weights and dims, I pulled from a lot of places, so I apologize if they are off. Correct me, and I will edit. The manufacturer websites are not great on some of the shelters, usually lacking some key information, such as height!
