Oneida Lake Question
« on: Jan 18, 2022, 12:50 PM »
Hey there all! Hope everyone having a great New Year and awesome Ice fishing season, so far!

I have question for yous, hoping I can be pointed in the right direction...

This week will be my second time to venture out on Oneida, I will also have a first 1st timer with me, can anyone point me in a direction for some walleye action or them monster perch I keep hearing about, Inbox me if you prefer. I don't visit this lake often because it is a lengthy drive for me.  I'm not asking to sit in the honey hole next to you, but if so ill bring lunch.

Any Help would be incredible.

Thank you in advance,

Cory

Lots of great places to fish there. Most of us find decent fishing spots by trial and error. You’ll be hard pressed to have someone willingly put you on the numbers lol. Stay with it and you’ll eventually find decent fishing  there.

Oneida is a gem. Best part - just go where the shanty towns are. There are 5-6 well known shanty towns just drive around and have fun! Some walls are far so I prefer to fish Oneida with a sled.

If your walking- SE corner- lewis point (but get there early),  very east end- verona beach or sylvan beach amusement park, north shore- jewel access, godfrey point, or apps lading( again get there early) there is some more access on west end but Im not very familiar with them.  for the north shore line up with everyone else, there is a big drop there. best advice is go to navionics.com and look at chart viewer to figure out where you want to go, you can also buy the app for your phone and it will work just like a gps with lake contours (oneida is great because it has 1ft contours).

Early meaning 4-5am.  LP/Apps Lots are small and if you park on the road or private land you will prob be ticketed or towed.  They are having a lot of issues with people parking on private land owner property and they will likely try to curb that with some enforcement actions.  Chapman park is another option for you as well.

Easist access around the lake with good parking would be Edgewater, the Beach, South Shore launch & Williams. I left out the others due to small parking lots or steep inclines..Ill never do jewel again ..im still a walker. If you have a machine it's a game changer..good luck

You guys are great! Awesome sportsmanship!! If anyone comes out to lake Erie , the eastern basin, for walleye or perch, let me know!

I really appreciate the plethora of info and the suggestions.

I'll be heading out today and planning to be there till Sunday. The North Shore looks like it'll be a good time! I won't have a machine this time , so I'll be hoofing it on the beautiful Oneida lake.

Hope you all have a blessed day and stay warm out there!

Tight lines and fish on!!

Cory

If you are headed for the north shore check out App's Bait/Tackle shop in Cleveland, right on the sharp bend of the road.  Good bait, good info, worth a stop.  Good luck.

Redmann, glad you caught some fish, good work!! Word from the wise…. If you leave PBR in cans at Apps for the bait tanks, you’ll most likely get some really good info!! Not that I know that personally…..🤔😁 some really great folks at that bait store!!!!😎
