Fixing Ice Rods
« on: Dec 20, 2006, 12:50 PM »
Does anyone have a good method to fix broken tips on ice rods.  I just broke the tip off a light/medium action rod on the way to the lake the other day and don't know if I should just toss it out or fix it.  Thanks for your help.

You can buy the replacement tips just about anywhere.  You just cut the end of the rod off flat (rotary tool with cut off works great), heat the glue, drip it on, and slide a new tip on.  Sometimes if it broke close enough to the end, you might be able to just heat the tip, pull the broken peice of the blank out of the original tip and it may still fit back on the rod.  Use a needlenose pliers to hold the tip though, cause they tend to get hot.
