Knots
« on: Dec 07, 2014, 08:50 AM »
I use a palomar more often than not. For tying my horizontal jigs. How many of you use a surgeons knot and what are its advantages. With the palomar knot I can adjust the jig to hang the way the fish want it as it is a tight knot. With the surgeons knot, seems to me that the jig will be riding at all different angles while jigging.

Palomar for me, the surgeons is to weak at 75%... Never found a "loop" knot that I liked (felt was strong enough), if I want more "swing" I would use one of the small clips...

With my "old" eyes I almost always use the smallest clips I can find.  I haven't noticed any difference in the number of fish that I catch.  I can change out the jigs on the clips so much easier than I can tie a knot.  The clips are tied with the polymer knot at home before I leave.  All that being said, I carry four or five rods so if I break off I just pick up a rigged rod and keep at it,

Only knot I pretty much use now is the palomar. I've had it hold up to some pretty strong fish on light line. Used to tie a trilene knot but it would break or slip on me when under a lot of stress.

There is a big risk/chance of missing it when tying a Trilene knot.

Just one little roll-over and it's way less than what you expect when tying a far superior knot which usually only breaks elsewhere on the line.

With the tag end being held with two loops, slipping is impossible.

Maybe this link will help.    ;)2         Trilene knot

I must be tying it wrong somewhere then. I like the palomar anyways. I find it easy to tie and very strong.
