First Fish of the Season
« on: Dec 30, 2007, 11:45 AM »
Finally, got out on the ice to do some serious fishing .  Did not have time to walk to my usual spot (not thick enough for a snow machine yet)so I went to Icensnowmnster's favorite spot at Half Moon.  The first hookup got off at the hole :'( .  The next one did not get off so lucky, 3lbs. 9oz.  Not a bad way to start off the season.

Here fishy fishy fishy, I don't want to hurt you, I just want to catch you!

Sweet!

Some Friends and I fished there yesterday too.  I ended up landing about a dozen or so, mostly small Laker's.  Got one about 24", probably 4-5 lbs.

Plenty of ice for a snowmachine, there was 8.5" where we were fishing.  However, this new snow and the current whiteout winds might make for some interesting overflow.  We may need snowmachines to get out there since they are not plowing past the campground anyhow.

I ended up catching about 10 and had 5 or so get off before getting them to the hole.  I bought new Pfleuger reels this summer and the drags on them do not make any noise when a fish pulls the line out.  The drag was set too light and I was not setting the hooks good.  I thought I was going crazy until I figured that out.  The ice was 7" and I'm a fraidy-cat and don't like to drive the machines on the ice until 12" or better.  It was a great morning to be out.

I have failed in the bumper sticker department, maybe us IS guys need to have small flags raised.  Of course if we did, those who are not members would crowd us because they know that IS guys know how and where to catch fish ;D.
