Ocean Lake
« on: Nov 27, 2007, 04:11 PM »
I just returned from the lake and there's 2 inches of ice in places around long point and it looks best over at Sandy Cove, but beginnimng to break up in the wind at LOng point although N side of Long looks like it's going to hold. Nothing at Dickenson except a few yards over near the highway. It's a start though  ;D

Things could change between now and the wkd but when I was goose hunting over at LOng Point by Sandy Cove, I walked out on it...looks like about 3 inches good solid ice. BTW, Little's # is 307-856-2306       D

Go get em guys! Right now, I just gotta put a few geese away here...I was wondering though...does a smart rooster-pheasant taste any better than a dumb one?  Nothin' was flying this morning and what was on the water was 600 yards out, but there was this stupid pheasant I almost stumbled over and he still wouldn't fly...finally got him to go but man! Wind chill had to be right at zero with that 40 mph breeze...all the birds were hugging the ground.   ;D

Sheesh! RD, I dropped my danged ghoose call in the blind and had to go back after it (I really like this goose call) and couldn't help but notice there's a nice film of ice over most of the lake now...enough for the geese to stand on course it's been at 19 degrees and overcast with no wind all day. You probably got 4-plus inches at Sandy Cove though, sic 'em!  ;D

about the same, deeper as you get closer to LOng Point from the campground at Sandy Cove...might be as easy to go to Long Point and drop down to that road that goes around to the right just before you go up the hill...deeper water less distance to drag a sled or whatever,    D

Well I finally got out on South Cove.  There was close to 6" of ice and the perch were hitting.  No Walleye but I did catch 20 perch.  They kept me on my toes all day long.  I think I had about 50 flags today but I only brought in 4 perch on tipups.  So I was swearing a bit.  So if you decide to hit ocean you might consider sewing on you minnows to keep them.....

Didn't know you were a Waterfowler. I'm headed for Michigan Tuesday to the family cabin for Muzzleloading season. When I get back lets get together and put some scales and feathers on some ocean ice! Later KR

Wooooweeee!!! The whole lake is iced over pretty good everywhere I checked...about 4 inches,  I shot a mallard and he went down on the ice at the outlet, 40 yards out and after testing the ice carefully I walked out there and retrieved that lil fat sucker!

I have caught a couple thru the ice, but nothing consistant.  I have talked to Gatenbein and he said it is good fishing off his dock in the spring time.  But I have never had the chance to try it since I am usually over at boysen trying to catch the walleyes.

cant blame them for that, I wouldnt tell where they were either. Just knowing there is some in the lake helps. I had a good spot on Boysen but its all sand and rocks now. Is Ocean a pay use area also? been a few years since I been over there.
