Dirty Ice at Seminoe
« on: Feb 17, 2019, 07:58 AM »
CAUTION DIRTY ICE!!  I fished Seminoe on the West side yesterday and found lots of blow sand and rocks throughout the ice no matter where you went.  Anyone with a shaver auger is wasting you time and money.  After 25 holes your blades look like you took a grinder to them.  Couple that with 30+ mph winds and white-out conditions.  That is a b***h kitty of a lake to fish..

yeah, with the wind and all the blow sand, it will
cost you some blades, I learned 45 years ago to
take extra when you go to seminoe

Pathfinder seems to have the same kind of ice in the winter.

I'm not sure how it dos it but at seminoe, it seams to
layer the sand in the ice, and it is tuff on blades.

I used to bring an axe and chop through as far as I could or felt I needed then hand auger from there stopped doing that when I got gas powered.

Pathfinder seems to have the same kind of ice in the winter.

I had this happen to me years ago at Pathfinder.  I had my Niles with me for a back up. ( traveling from Gilllette, I would always pack it with me ).
It went dull in a couple of inches too....
First time that I had experienced this. I finally burned a couple of hole with the jiffy and fished those holes the rest of the weekend.
A few years ago, Fontenelle had very little snow on it and the wind was terrible that winter. The same senero,  sand was blown on the ice.
I took my spud bar and chipped down a couple of inches, then drilled my hole. I didn't have any issues that year doing this...
