Electric (Battery) Auger
« on: Jan 01, 2019, 11:43 PM »
I decided to break down and buy an electric auger.
I chose the Strikemaster with a 10” blade.

I was a bit concerned that it would not be what many said it would.

Well, I took it out yesterday and to say that I’m impressed is an understatement.  I drilled 15 or 20 holes through about 10” of ice.  It was as fast as my gas auger and
I had no issues with the cold.  I am sure I could have drilled many more holes.

My gas auger is now retired!

I got the Trophy strike 120 volt 8 inch and I am in love. So easy to use and drills like a dream.

Welcome to the shanty woodruffhunter, it seems electric is the way to go. I purchased a nils 6in convertible 3 years agao and used it more than my gas auger, so last year I bought the 8in nils and sold my 18 year old strikemaster. I will not be looking back and am very satisfied with it paired with a milwaukee drill

Welcome!  I bought the strikemaster 40 a few years ago when they first came out.  Loved it but there was  a bad switch in them and they were all recalled.  Was very scary couldn't get it to stop without taking battery out!    Wished I would have waited til they got the bugs worked out.  I just go the Eskimo Pistol grip 8" with the rigid 1/2" Drill.  Love it!  Still have my old gas auger for backup though it stays in truck majority of the time now....

Got the Strikemaster 40V and used it for the first time today. Pretty sweet to just push a button and drill. Not saying I will never use gas again but something real bad will have to happen to get me to.

Still new at this Bob.  I replied to your PM but cannot see if it "sent".  I hope you received it.

If not, yes, I do know him.

Just bought the Jiffy E-6 lightning 10" and been having issues with the tip freezing up and it quits cutting. Anyone else having this issue?

My Eskimo would do that sometimes and it would take a little bump while setting the blade on the ice to drill and maybe a little push down. When not drilling set it where the blades aren't in the snow.

When I take mine out of the hole I spin it for a few seconds and that seems to keep it clean of ice. Also I also do not lay it in the snow.

IMO the Strikemaster lithium 40v is the way to go. First year with mine and I actually enjoy drilling holes for a change.

How many holes at 20° do you think the strikemaster will drill? Average inches of ice

More than I will ever need in a day. I have drilled about 30 holes this last week and the battery is still showing a full charge in 13" of ice.
