Trip planning
« on: Nov 03, 2018, 05:41 PM »
If one was to plan a trip in March, 8th thru the 14th, where would on go?

Pretty sure this would be the last ice trip of the season for me.

Manitoba, Fort Peck, Pactola can be good in March, Keyhole is good as long as the ice is good but the crappies are real  good then.
In the memory of "Team Lighting" Fish ON!

Hmm.....From what I've been looking at lately Cascade might be a better option for size than Devil's Lake and could offer more variety also. It is a couple hundred miles further but after all we are Wyomingites and a couple hundred miles has never stood between us and a good time :roflmao:

I'll be on Winnipeg again about that time!

Other than that I'd seriously look into Ft Peck for lakers and biog pike, or possibly Cascade, ID for MONSTAH perch!

My last day on the Gorge last season was March 9. I was fishing in the Blacks Fork arm as the main channel wasn't safe. Every year it's different as sometimes we get a warm spell in mid-February and it starts to deteriorate and other times it stays relatively cold into March.

This!!!  The first week of March is probably a bit early, but Lake Powell is an amazing fishery.  My wife and I started going about a dozen years ago, and make one or 2 trips down in March and April.  Striped bass, walleye (no limit on either one), walleye, crappie, smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish.
You can literally fill a 120 quart cooler with stripers when you find them.  Sitting over a school of stripers casting a 6 or 8 weight fly rod, catching 4-6 pound hard fighting stripers until you have too many to filet is great break from our long Wyoming winters!!!

My top 3 for walleye would be:
Lake Winnepeg
Lake of the Woods (Angle Island)
One of the hot ND lakes (I wish I could be on Devils Lake at this moment)

Devils lake and ft peck are both great. If ft peck still has good ice it’s a great place to get a fish of a lifetime

Haha!

I really need to do it one weekend. Down in a day, fish for a day, back in a day.
