live bait...

in the summer i use panfish for bait.   (y.perch bluegills ext..)  anyone ever try this through ice!?  every fish i caught would be 2 1/2#  less hits but bigger runs!!!  and free bait!!    tightlines and thanks  moose

Yes...I have, check your regulations first guys! Not always legal... they do work pretty well for pike also...

I do the same thing and always catch monsters! I tried them once last year through the ice but they kept tripping the flags so i just stick with the shiners. Nothing beats the native bait tho.

Last ice fishing season my son caught this 21 inch largemouth using a 5 inch blugill under a tip up.

ganna be fishing a small bass pond.. few lunkers floating around in there.. if i jig up perch of bait size.. ill be giving it a try..   as for the bait tripping the flag, just pull the spring down a little, it stiffens the trip. -moose

big bait just trim their tail off with a pair of sicsors it works great that what people do when fishing big baits for deep sea fishing and it works great i do the same thing when fishing 12inch suckers for pike

I think a hungry fish will eath just about anything if it is in the right place and right time!

coldbum, it deff. was...   the best part was when i threw my lure at him, sucked it it... ran a few yards but then tangled my bait line and got off!  woulda been better if landed i guess  -moose

What kind of snake, that would be a pain to put on.  Do you guys also have good luck jigging up small perch and gills i seem to never get one small enough to give a try.

In the summer I have caught bass on 8" perch and bigger and have even caught a perch on a perch!!!!

small bluegills too!   and of course perch!!    always get lake trout and smallies from the deep!!  -moose

i know it works for pike sooo... it will most likely worked

never tried though
