Title: How much ice can be made in 24hrs.
Post by: redbandit850 on Dec 07, 2010, 09:08 AM: Just wanted to post this chart in anticipation of first Ice. Obviously this does not account for numerous factors such as wind and size of the body of water. Just thought it was a neet idea anyhow.

Post by: redbandit850 on Dec 07, 2010, 11:51 AM: Hopin to get out saturday myself. Thursday/thursday night will make or break it with temps looking anywhere from -5 to 10 depending on location. As long as the pond your looking at has a layer of ice before thursday you might be able to make it out.

The main thing is the wind. If the water is choppy, the ice can't form uniformly.
Bring on the calm and the cold !

Post by: TheOutdoorsman on Dec 07, 2010, 03:18 PM: Unfortunately, any ice that already existed probably has a bunch of snow on it...causing slow (and poor) ice-making.

Post by: redbandit850 on Dec 08, 2010, 09:10 AM: Just went and checked the pond I had lined up for saturday. Small pond, less than 75 acres here in york county and it had 3.5 inches of ice 15 ft out from shore where I tested it. Cant wait for saturday!
