Ice Fishing Massachusetts / First and last report of the winter
« Last post by Badbassery on Mar 04, 2024, 08:24 PM »
Hi everyone :) glad to be here, finally made it out on Saturday before the rain messed everything up. Not much to note but at least got the itch off before I put my ice fishing stuff away until December. A ton of small 7 inch white perch around, must have caught over 50. Had the pleasure of seeing a bald eagle stop by some of the ones I left.

Looks like a good day and the ice must be melting down pretty good with the warm weather.

Maybe with some luck next year you’ll be able to get on them, and place at the derby

I only got out twice, both times in NH. Maybe I wasn't as hard core as I used to be but better than nothing. However I'm excited to work on my new ventures with fly fishing very soon.

Sounds like everyone had a great time with plenty of good fishing.

It was definitely a shorter season, but looks like it ended on a good note. See what happens next season.

Digs
I spent month of February on 1st Connecticut lake.
Fished around most of the lake - ice had been around 16” but when I left March 1st had about 4” water on top.
Check as you go but should still have some ice.

Got out there again today for the last trip of the year. The boat launch was wide open. I was able to get on where the ice heaved up onto shore, only had about 6” of decent ice at most. Glad we were able to get it done, as both of us got our first ice fished pike.

When I got out today,  I found launch at sabattus is wide open, we got onto the ice on the opposite side of the point. we only had about 6” close to shore, a bit less out away from the shore so I didn’t go too far. The top two inch weren’t great. Many of those old holes that opened up and made it a hazard running for flags.
I was on little ossipee yesterday, 9” of what looked like mostly solid clear ice, but the inlet at that launch was making that beach area open up too, wasn’t much space to get on
