Title: Open water crappie question

I've never targeted crappie quite this early (before spawn). I'm headed out with one of my boys tomorrow, the plan is to use minnows or tube jigs... but if we can't get on them any tips for finding them? To early for a beetle spin, or small inline, or maybe small crank bait?? Any info appreciated.  Northern indiana if that matters....

I'd probably try a channel if any around crappies like channels early, just my guess. Hex
