Grand traverse bay east and west arms
« on: Jan 16, 2022, 07:36 PM »
This is just for hoping and praying this is one of the years that the bays freeze... With the current temps in the forecast it honestly looks promising as long as the winds lie down for a while.... If they freeze im gonna have to pay joefromTC  to take me out and teach me how to catch a lake trout lol

Temps are there it's just the dang wind won't let up.  Personally I'm hoping Torch freezes...if it does the Bays usually do as well.

I heard of some giant perch catching on east bay from my dad back in 90’s when it would freeze. He claimed it froze around every 7 years.
Catching Any?

I remember that whitefish! a master angler award fish I believe.  :)

The Perch can be real pigs, but they are hard to find.

I'm ready to go, just need it to stay cold, fingers crossed.

Heres a couple pics from a few years ago:

Nice quote I just saw ;D hope it holds!!

Scott Handel, the lead meteorologist at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, says,
“There are a lot of moving parts right now, which could lead to a weather pattern change.”
Handel indicates there are a few signs the northern hemisphere weather pattern has the possibility of re-arranging.
He also admits that while the re-arranging is possible, most of the forecast tools indicate a continued colder-than-normal pattern for at least a few weeks".

Seen a few two week models that all had the polar vortex destabilizing around january 25th....  With potential for single digit highs and below zero lows..... Couple days like that and we will be golden

Any updates on the bays?  It's been plenty cold, but windy too.  Looking for a chance to try some different ice.  Thanks for everyone contributing info.

Webcam looked promising this morning. Did it freeze overnight or are there still large sections open?
