Replica fish
« on: Dec 06, 2020, 05:54 PM »
Had an awesome day of fishing, caught a beautiful and big fish, after talking to some people and showing pictures I may be regretting the choice to let him swim. We got a ton of pictures and an overall length just no girth or weight. Anyone know if anyone can do a replica with only that info? Thanks!

Great choice W8NonICE to let 'em swim. Replicas are far superior to skin mounts provided you've got good pics of the original fish and a competent artist to do the work. Know that fish mounts are all painted as 95% of the colors are lost during the tanning/curing process. You need an artist for fish.

There are two great guys in WI but not near you. Really doesn't matter. What kind of fish did you catch? Poke around and look for a guy that does that fish well and buy in. Slightly more expensive than a skin mount but far more durable and, if done well, barely distinguishable from skin.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I don't regret the one I had done.  the only thing that isn't realistic is in the mouth.  the rest looks real.  you will need to estimate your fishes girth though.

share a photo of the monster.

29” tiger trout! Got him on 6lb line took about 40 minutes. Had a tape on a sled but nothin for weight or girth. It was a fun fight.

Yep. Mouths and to some extent inside the gills is where you can tell. You got some great pics there and the right guy can give you a replica that you can put a pic on the corner and everyone will go WOW!.

Rick Lax and Joe Fittante are the top two in WI but I wouldn't know what they have in trout molds. Their forte is muskies or walleyes. If you're drawing blanks, contact them and they might know a (some) guy(s).

Great fish! Congrats

Thank you for that info I will keep in mind! I tried not to hold him out super far just to give a good idea on his size as I was super excited and didn’t need to try and make him look bigger. Got a ton of pictures and bunch of video as well.

Artistic Anglers in Duluth, MN does the best work I have seen.

https://www.artisticanglers.com/

The place I used to work had probably 30 replicas done by them and they looked as good after 25 years as the day we got them.

Beautiful fish glad you let him swim.  I have a skin mount of my best walleye and lake trout and wish both were replicas.

Thank you! Wish I would have got a few more measurements but I’m happy with my choice to let it swim!

Hey that’s my truck in the back ground.
Congrats on that monster tiger. That’s an awesome catch.
I have a guy that has done a couple replicas for me but I don’t think an odd ball fish like a tiger would be up his alley.

I've had a hybrid muskie and a chain pickerel done by Artistic Anglers in Duluth Minnesota, they do nice work, also Joe Fittante does nice work. Another option is a metal side mount, check out Kens Hammered Steel website for an idea on what they do. He will tackle about any fish. If he is into it he can do very nice work, plus it is a lot more reasonably priced option.

Here’s a couple replicas I had done by fiber tech productions in Minnesota. Super fast turn around and good pricing. The lake trout is one my girlfriend caught through the ice last season and the brookie is one I caught this summer.
