Smelt

Several friends and myself have been trying to get on some smelt for at least 3 weeks now on West Branch in Southern NY. We have treid just about everything and little or no results. Can anyone give some tips on locating and catching these little >:D. The most we iced in one night with 4 guys i think was 6. We will travel if its our body of water, any help greatly appreciated.

Here we catch them in 20-30 fow. Try a lot of different depths in teh water column, sometimes they are up near the ice sometimes they are down near bottom. I fish them mostly in the day time and do pretty good. Try dumping chum down the holes to attract em. I use pieces of fish mostly for bait. Hopes this helps
