fishing a new pond...questions?
« on: Mar 30, 2011, 08:45 AM »
I am headed out to a remote pond after april first for lakers, I dont know the exact acreage of the pond, but from what I have been told its around 70' deep and its just a straight hole in the ground...how would I go about fishing this? from the photos i have seen and from a map (contour not available) it looks prob 75 acres or so...any tips? figured I would just hike in with my flasher and move a decent amount, but wonder what I should look for edge of water wise for easier location. planned on using white/silver tubes with stingers, same setup i use on other lakes. thanks

I would get an idea on what the lake holds for other species,  cusk?  perch?  smelt?  All those species are going to be schooled in shallower water right now either spawning or staging up for spawning after ice out.  The mouth of brooks where smelts are stagging or shallow flats in 10-20 feet of water could be your best bet right now.  The big boys usually come out to play this time of year @)
Its not a passion its an obsession
