Jackfish near Carvel still had about 2 ft off the launch.

All the ice lately looks like compacted crushed ice to "form lake ice". If I make myself to be understandable.

Any updates on other local lakes?

Solid 2.5 feet on Wab still, but its getting softer.  This cold snap will help solidify it back up.  Pretty rough around the shoreline but even my Corolla made it through.  Few 3/4 tons out on the ice.

Even after the cold the ice is starting to get soft. Still 2-3 feet depending on where you are on the lake but I would definitely be wary now...

Is anyone else out there today?

Stopped at jackfish and on route to another lake.

I'm guessing at 2ft approx (not far off) but it looks like hard packed snow for most of it, where I was.  But that 2' maybe consisted of 6-8" of really nice ice.

I'm not an expert on ice by any means....but i would have thought it would have been in better shape this weekend.

Anyway, be careful all. Hope lake 2 has nice ice....I don't really want to walk 45 mins to my spot. Oh, okay...ya I do...lol. Such a sucker. Lol.

Good fishin!

Ice conditions for August 8th, 2014. Hard to find solid ice that isn't melting, mostly found as cubes in my rum and coke or frost on my beer mug.

There is the odd bunch flowing out of the rain gutters as hail... but I doubt it will form into much and still would not consider it to be safe even for light gear.

The ice is starting to build up in Calgary in my freezer, might have to have a couple of stiff drinks tonight and dream about the season that is around the corner.....

All the ponds and smalls lakes are frozen over.  Less than an inch close to shore where i checked yesterday.  If you are going to venture out this early, use caution and common sense!

Itchin to drill but not quite yet. Nice to see some -20 around here. Probably drive out to a few places on the weekend and check the thickness. Im guessing I wont see any action until December this year. Good luck to all and safe fishing for the 2014/2015 season.

Was keen to head out for the first time this weekend but after the super warm weather that rolled through the city yesterday and today I am a little less confident to find some good safe ice. I am keen to hear from anyone who heads out today or Saturday.

Thanks in advance, stay safe out there.

Was out yesterday on my B day and found a crack that had formed as we fished.

It was amazing how much I could make it move just by flexing it  and jumping up and down.

With the weight of this snow, I can only imagine what is happening to the ice.

I'm not an expert on the subject. I just hope everyone is safe out there if they venture out on the ice after all this snow.

Good fishin'!

White slush on the shoreline at ghost. About 5 inches of ice when I drilled a hole off the dock. Going to be a week or two still.

This snow is gonna make the ice unsteady for a few days.  Take it easy and be safe out there folks!

Any ice reports for Sturgeon Lake or Snipe? Coming up from Saskatchewan to visit family and wouldnt mind checking those two lakes for Walleye and Perch.

Was at Park Lake near Lethbridge on the weekend and there was 7" of clear ice. Fishing was slow, but more wanted to get out and dust of the gear for the coming weekends.

Lots of flood water. Doesn't look like anybody has been on the lake yet. I drilled a hole near willowbend and it didn't look good.

Ghost at the north side of the highway - some idiot cut out 10ft x 10ft sections of ice right infront of the dock. be bloody careful.
6-8" of bubbly ice in the area... not very safe quite yet.

7 inches of black ice at Mcgregor Lake near the bay at middle portion of the lake. There was open water near the shore in one or two spots though and big patches of bad ice. Caught a walleye and one pike though!
