the spawn is over, they spawn in lakes and rivers...really depends... january to mid-late february is the spawn depending on where you are.  Anyhow they spawn in shallow water, less than 10 feet...but now that they are done they should be feeding pretty heavily.

Caught  7 & 8 lbers last night here in northern BC and they still are full of eggs. Things are a bit weird here in northern BC as at a local lake we have kokanee that also spawn in mid winter. According to conservation officers there are only 3 lakes in BC where this happens. The spawn for burbot here goes into first week in March. Still waiting to tape them on the Aqua-vu doing their orgies. Have only seen a couple roll by.

Hey terry this might sound dumb but can u actual Tape them on the view? Like so you can re-watch it later? If so then if you can get them in their Orgie type setting you shoudl maybe summit it to a Fishing show as i don't know of anyone who has this actually happening or have ever seen it with their own eyes...Just a thought...

No I don't think I can get them doing it Germ. I have watched on the Aqua-vu and only seen a couple rolling through but it was still slightly light out and it was just  mostly shadows. Not a real good picture. One fellow had one passing by on his Aqua-vu last year that he taped. It was posted on this site. I would love to capture a bunch of them doing it but I would have to be very close as light doesn't go very far. The chances of something like that happening are very slim, probably better than you catching an adult burbot though. ;)

Yes you have me there, I'm getting hot for the ling orgy. I have about 7 weeks on average left on my season. Last 3 years have been on the ice over 6 months. Some poor fellows down south don't even get a few weeks. I think I'd move or have to take Prozac. But then again I'd take Prozac if I couldn't catch some respectable ling. Are you taking anything for your predicament Germ???

LOl well Not as of yet...You see Un-like yourself i have much patience for waiting out the big ones. With these few weeks left i know that the  Ling as you have said are just finishing their "Orgies" (lil side note here is that they are shy so stop goggling them ya perv) Anyhow they are pretty hungry after the Spawn...You know Terry how you get once a year after the viagra kicks in........Anyhow in the next 2 weeks ill be fishing for lLing again and ill certainly do my best to get Old walter out there...Tight lines!

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Ling Orgie!  Good grief you two are like listening to the burbot fishing version of Dr. Ruth and Howard Stern!  Viagra! Terry, Germ may turn the water into a seething, slithering, ball of red eyed horney cusk!  I guess after all that activity, they gotta eat!  Then again, that really increases your chance of the "big one" Germ.  Good luck! you should post your results of "Viagra night on Simicoe lake" soon!

Tylerfish,  Where are you located?  SOme areas are much different than others.  I used to catch spawning Burbot in March and April back in Wisconsin.  We would accidently catch burbs that were still in pre-spawn during the annual river walleye runs.

Sorry Jake didnt mean to Cross the Line You can pull that one that has the ORgie talk i don't mind he already read it so the point got accross....lol.  I actually just modified it so it is a little cleaner now.Well As far as me getting out on Simcoe i was going to do it Friday night at the islands but have had some reports that the ICe has been opening and I don't care much for nite time out there with all this warm weather and opening of ice and not having anyone else around....they combine for a bad situation....Much like Terry and a mirror...just not good for one another ..ya know what i mean? LOL Tight lines!

Sorry for the delay in replying Germ. I went out on an overnight trip for ling. Did catch and release 33. The biggest was 12.5lbs but the majority were 4-6lbs. Please don't take off the gauntlets. Concentrate more on catching a respectable sized ling. I think when you look back over your accomplishments this summer you would be much happier. I personally would like to see you improve the size of ling you are catching. I'm sure you can do it ;) Please send me a private/personal message for all that I missed. Sounds like it was good if it had to be modified or erased.

Not tooo sure Tyler?  Seems like maybe 3 weeks or so.... Don't even know if many biologists have taken the time to research the mighty burbot?  They certainly don't release much for information here in Alaska.

they do if you can get ahold of their studies...they said that they spawn here from early jan to mid feb...there was one they did on winter patterns of fish in glacial rivers...had a ton of info on the burbot they tagged, where they were at certain times of year...it was cool, i learned alot...should have saved it on my favorites

i use to set sets and tipups, but they are a hassel when they are hitting good, especially at pick up, so i have been jigging for the most part... i think this season i have only caught 2 on tipups, all the rest on jigs
