I've never fished CC before, so need some directions to West Shades. Also, what should I bring as bait? Is it live bait, or something else?

You can use any bait you want, but I have never caught a walleye on a minnow (deadstick) there, LOL, only crappies and trout.

West Shades are the line of picnic tables on westside, hard to miss, like a frontage road runs along them, Some call the roofs over the tables "Wale Tails" Not far from the West park entrance.

Well, the West shades sounds like a plan. Those that want to arrive at sunup can meet for fishing. I'll be driving a white Ford Escape, and prob get there around 7am.

People can join any time, and we'll probably start gathering to prepare and eat food around 11am up at the Whale Tails. Should be fun!!

I tried it Wednesday for few hours and not even a bite. Skunked there twice already so I can't provide the fish. I got in the one last ice season by the tower with the FX's crew.

This weather is making things scary, guy riding the machine up at Evergreen, and dying from being in the water for 30 minutes. BTDT. Looks like I didn't miss anything by going to Granby yesterday

Highs of 55°F Saturday and 60°F Sunday --- kinda scary. Well, we can see how things go and make the call Saturday night...maybe someone will have an ice report to go by. I wouldn't want to push it.

I've been wondering about conditions with the warm-up. I was planning on bringing two friends (one is an IS member). I bought the fixuns for the jambalaya already. I wouldn't mind a relocation somewhere in the mountains if CC is too iffy. I'll be looking here tomorrow night and see what you decide.

Yep, let's see how things look tomorrow. Chatfield is still going ahead with their tourney tomorrow, and there were reports saying CC still had 5-6"...metro ice might hang on till Sunday! Chatty might actually be a backup option if CC looks bad. Seems like it might have a little better ice.

I fished Chatty tonight with a bunch of guys --- still 6-7 inches with some slush on top. Not sure if anyone's checked CC lately, but there's probably ok ice. Maybe? So, let's go for it at CC!

I'm probably going to get there around 7am, and I'll be parking at the West Shades. I'm driving a white Escape and I'll be wearing my signature ugly yellow jacket. I'm going to walk out a ways to some humps for eyes.

For people who can't come out early, should we plan on food meetup around 11am at the west shades?

I'll be arriving between 6:30 - 7. I'll park my red Pathfinder at the Shades as well. I'll be wearing tan Carharts. I'll be checking ice with my spudbar. There were people nearby fishing a day ago so I'm guessing its still good...but will verify as I go.
