Anyone use it for pike? I'm ordering some stuff off of Cabela's website and I'd like to get some leader wire with the order. Any other suggestions for leader wire that is currently available on the website?

Try the uncoated afw surfstrand. Its thinner easier to work with, and way cheaper.

That is the stuff I just bought at Fleet Farm. Seems to be easy to work with. Have to see how it works in the water.

I use the coated wire in black for all of my leaders and quick strike rigs.
Works great!!!  :D

That wire is the same price as the Malin Boa leader I started using that I got from TackleDirect. Because Cabela's is still offering the promo for free shipping with their Visa card, it would be
cheaper to get it from them.

Do you crimp it or tie knots?

Crimp. It's too stiff to tie...

I've used some of the tyable leader, and honestly it's easier for me to just do a crimp sleeve than it is to get a good knot in that stuff. I think I used Cortland Toothy critter.

I use the AFW 25 pound test nylon coated knotable steel leader.  I originally started off with the uncoated as others are recommending but found it difficult to work with because I refuse to crimp and trust my strength with some pliers to hold if I ever hook that monstah I've been eternally chasing after haha.  The nylon coated truly is knotable, I used the standard fisherman's knot.  The trick is to form the knock and then get some spit on there before you choke it up to tighten it.  Slides right into place, holds like a dream!  Super easy to repair/re-tie leaders on-ice, too.
