I'll agree with wanting to get that giant fish such as walleye but I'd prefer to take it from a body of water that doesn't produce phenomenal numbers of big ones. That would just mean that I've really done my homework!

Don't get me wrong...I won't miss an opportunity to fish Erie. I absolutely Love it but a 10 pound plus from there is not as rewarding as a giant from inland lakes with only a few exceptions!

Great stuff fellas! There is no doubt fishing means different things to different people. Heck, my old neighborhood loves icefishing for the party and the kids love the vex. As I think back to my best times last year, it almost certainly includes fishing with my daughter. There is many reasons to enjoy it, I'm just surprised most people choose not too.
I wish I was good at ice fishing!

So many things come to mind. Tradition, culture and heritage are huge factors. It runs through my blood and when I'm not hunting or fishing I'm always thinking of it. It's an obsession and a addiction...makes you feel obsessed and just makes you feel good. I'm addicted and proud to say it!  :woot:  Now lets catch some fish!  :icefish:

I hear you.  The trophy is relative to the body of water.  Hence the drive is to catch big fish therefore you must fish lakes that have the big fish.  There are some lakes I won't waste my time on.

The Unknown.

I never know what a day of fishing (freshwater or saltwater) will have in store for me. Its the reason I get up at 4 am on the weekends to start getting my boat ready and head 50 miles out into the ocean as the sun rises to play tug of war with an unknown creature and try to win.

Same with freshwater. It was the reason I sit in a small shanty starring at a Vex all day just waiting for that big red line to rise up and slam my jig..

I guess fishing is a way to connect to another part of the world, and its completely unpredictable no matter how much thought we put into it and thats what I love about it.

LOL.... no, but I have seen him get pretty excited.... but who wouldn't when you actually detect a bite from the abyss!

I just hope I have the GoPro when he lands the giant!

There are only 4 kinds of fish; Salmon, Steelhead, Gills, and Pike.  And a few times a summer there are some perch on Lake Michigan ;)

My Dad started me icefishing for gills in ponds when I was 5, I will be 61 in July and the species doesn't matter I just enjoy the fishing(thats what people who don't catch much say).

And now my daughter is wanting to go ice fishing this year, she helps me rig my poles and clean fish already and goes out in the boat a bunch with me but this year shes been insistant on goin on the ice so i cant wait to take her out for the first time...... When its not -10 of course
