I cant speak for Blue, fastime, or RJ.......I was not with them.

Blue was not out there, he was taking the pics from shore after a drive by and seeing them out there.  I think he knows that an inch of ice will not hold his arse!!   :o  Right Blue?  :roflmao:

When I first started ice fishing I didn't own an auger. I would take a splitting maul out, and half chop, half bust, out a jagged hole. Standing over 18' of water and swinging a maul at the only thing between you and having a really bad day puts things in perspective. But I did it anyway, and that 4-5" of ice withstood the abuse, and I came home dry. Now, I have an auger, but that maul taught me something invaluable. It provided me with a standard, which I think about every time I go out. I ask myself, "would I be comfortable standing here swinging that maul on this kind of ice, or is it bad enough that I'm worried about putting too much downward pressure on the auger?" That's what that maul taught me, the value in having an acceptable safety margin, the knowledge that I'm not right on the ragged edge of what the ice can support. Sure, I carry picks, I tie myself off, and I wear a flotation device. But the way I look at it, if I need any of that stuff, it's too late, I'm somewhere I shouldn't have been. Maybe, probably, I'm just getting old. But pushing the ice to it's maximum limits no longer holds the appeal to me that it once did. For the guys who got out, thanks for posting the pics, I hope it's not much longer before I'm fishing also.

So is there safe ice?   ???
I used to get excited about a 20 inch bass until I caught my first 40 inch dolphin.

Worst part about the warmup is the rain that is going to come along with it.  Woulda maybe turned some steelhead on with the temperature spike but we don't need anymore rain :%$#!:

Blue, we have something in common.  I'm not getting out until about 2.5 inches.  Maybe a little less if I can see about a dozen other guys out there already ;D

Fell through 20 years ago, by myself, late ice. In water 1 1/2 hours, rescued by a 17 year old who was poaching deer with his uncle. In hospital 3 days. More than lucky!
Still ice fish a lot but don't push the package anymore.

We all have comfort zones.  And all of us are afraid of certain things that others may not be.  Going through is no picnic, and for those that have it gives us an experience that you can never prepare for.  It is the nature of the beast.

I have a U.S. Coast Guard suit that I wear ice fishing. Many times I have been asked if someone went thru.

I know it wasn't the smartest thing to be out on that ice but we took our precautions and checked the ice thoroughly before we started fishing. Everyone bad mouthing us just needs to stop.  You weren't there and don't know the conditions. If i didn't feel safe I would not have been out there.

Not to anyone personally. I just dont see why people can be happy that someone got on some ice before the heat wave hit.

Ok good.  My comment was just to throw gas on the fire and make Rico mad!
