I figured I would just start a new thread to separate the confusion of other thread as far as location and geographical area. Saturday Feb. 28th 7am. Public ramp Culver Lake Maxincukee We can do some grilling if someone wants to sign up for that and others donations as well... I will be on a maroon ski doo 500 and nanook shack . I think I will try and allocate some sort of high viz wire taags to attach to something that will be visible to everyone else to identify a fellow IS member while we are all out there somewhere on the lake. I will also leave some hanging on the sign at ramp for those who may be running late or opt to show up after posted time..Any thing I missed ????

I have a four wheeler I could bring over and help with towing out if possible. Could fasten a radio to an IS flag on my trailer for calls out. We could take turns shuttling. Would that help?

For those of us who've never been, is there only one ramp located on W Shore Drive on the SW side of the lake? I spent many hours working on blueprints for buildings at culver but I've never fished the lake.

You got it. There's several access points but only the one public boat launch.

I've got it on my computer's calendar with a reminder to pop up the day before (old farts are like that ......yeah they are. ::) ) but I have to admit that I've no clue what a shanty rodeo is. ???
Not going far from the ramp given the option of where to go. I'm sure most have more and better places but one isn't too horribly far for me to leave as I need to, assuming the ice cover isn't ridiculous LOL. Time of day is also a slight consideration. I'm not positive I can arrive early AM.
It's penciled in but, due to some health issues needing addressed I can make no promises till a later date.
I've little to bring but I will be watching to see if there is something of need I can provide.
Forgive my ignorance should my post lean towards doing something other than what is intended.

I'll be there. Hopefully one of the machines can tow me if we are going far away from the ramp. I'll check to see if my camping grill still works if we want to make food. Otherwise i'll just bring some beer or snacks.

The one day i can't be there. Grandson and daughter from out of state will be here for a birthday party. Wait a minute, that's not scheduled til 1pm. 1 hr drive each way,an hr on the ice with some of you might be worth it. Grandma might not agree. Have fun.

Ty sarge for starting a maxi thread as I was meaning a get together over here in ne but people were confused a bit and I thank you for adding the New post to clarify. I meant no disrespect in my post on the other thread I just misinterpreted it a bit. No hard feelings here and I hope I didn't offend you. :)

I don't take offence easily so it's all good. Just want to catch fish and make new friends, I think I can speak for alot of people here when I say we share info and tell stories for so long it's almost like we know each other and really don't have a clue about each other in real life...Hope to meet up with ya sometime

I definitely want to be there I'm hoping we don't have to work that weekend.If I can make it I could pull some stuff out only problem it's not a two up snowmobile.Not sure how Indiana is on laws mi. Tickets people for that.

I'll be there Top. Will bring my Polaris up and hook the trailer onto the back for gear and taxi a few people out there. Should be a good time. If they'e grilling too, I'll bring some burger and buns. Hopefully we can all get on a few fish. I've not fished Maxi much but I do know they have great walleye in there and the perch too. It's a bit of drive for me but I'll be there. Hope to learn something up there also. I need something like this too, considering all that's happened to me in the last few months.

I will bring out a grill to cook on (550 square in.) Will set it up on a centralized location to eat and b.s. say... 11-12ish. I will have quad and dog sled to haul ppl and gear, depending where everyone wants to fish. Im sure guys on machine will be greatly mobile, maybe if the guys on foot want to pick an area to stick a few fish, makes the taxi end faster and easier to keep guys fishing?! I would be more than willing to cook, anyone can bring anything, make it happen.
Be really nice if the perch grounds were established by then, just beat them up and set up shop! Lol.

I was able to get my camp grill working. I can bring it if we need another. I'm able to grill 6 burgers at a time or about 15 hot dogs.

Fella's... I have to cancel on the maxi shin dig. I really want to go to it, but a chance at northern minesotta came about and i "have" to go. If trip gets cut short and im home in time to hit maxi, i will be sure to show up. But... I will do my best to get some pics from up north to post when i get back, for some to reminisce and some to "see" what its all about. Unfortunetly for some, ive been sworn to secrecy to not post any cord #'s. Hope all turns out well for the shin dig, kind of is dissapointing not to make it after halfway setting plans and getting the ball rolling.

after the rodeo i played in today in my shanty trying to check a few spots before tomorrow....I will be taking a few days to recoop then I will post finalization for the meet and greet. I am sure of an even better turn out than last year and it turned out pretty well..

Just a few pieces of info for those coming maybe for the first time or not familiar with area. Bait Barn has great supply of bait and is located on Cty. Rd. 14B off of Hwy 17 north of culver and they open about 6:30. Several gas stations are right in town as you come into Culver and the MAIN boat ramp is south west side there is also another public launch on east side where Cty Rd 18b runs into 117 on east side of academy ... If we are still planning to grill we need some input on this as Northern Duck has opted to go north, I thought they went south for the winter lol

Plan on coming. What boat ramp are most people meeting at and about what time? This will be my first IS outing and only the second time on Maxi. Do I need to bring something other than ice fishing stuff?
I will be coming from the west, anyone have really good directions above and beyond what First Sergeant has posted please shoot me a pm.
What bait should I bring? bee moths, small minnows or larger minnows?

Seems like this thread needs a stamina boost. so instead of starting a new thread i thought I would post here. a couple of the humps I fished this morning were stacked up with eyes and starting to see a few jumbos again...

I just hope they're still there on the 28th. Been working on my shanty and other gear. I'm still planning on bringing my Polaris. I'll even ferry a few of the guys out there.

After going out last night with no luck, I am getting more excited about the get-together. I have never caught a legal-sized walleye in Indiana during the ice season. Any suggestions on bait or lures to bring?

I wouldn't get all jacked up about a fish bonanza or you will self disappoint and probably do the norm of im not going back to that stupid lake ever again just had professional line pullers all over it and I wasn't impressed with the stats just sayin not to say there not there but here lately with all the hoopla and excitement of a couple lonely fisherman ;D doesn't mean your gonna fill buckets but if you want to socialize and hang out your probably in for a good time sorta like pannin for gold one man gets a spec of color and fever sets in ;)2

That's all I have been saying is just show up meet some folks and enjoy the day. never will guarantee fish but just getting the blood flowing and raise some excitement. it was a sight to behold though seeing all that gold on the camera for a solid two hours..On the flip side, the two weed beds we caught all the gills on for the tournament this last Sunday, well I have been back to both of them twice this week and there is seriously not one gill to be found. How's that for a crap shoot lake.

I guess I haven't been paying attention to the # of views lol all I can say is this lake will hand you your rear any day of the week. i don't care if conditions seem favorable or not you just have to be there, right place at right time. I am truly looking forward too just meeting the great folks that enjoy this great sport.

Buckshots, pimples, jiggin raps.. colors are endless. Sizes will vary at times, in the day, or night for that matter. tip ups catch fish out there also. But im a jiggin person, its hard for me to dead stick to begin with, unless crappie fishing somewhere, then i still have a jig all over the water coloumn. Lol

Had some success on Saturday. Caught one 10+ inch perch and a short walleye but that was a full day of fishing. Its a start. Looking forward to the warm temps and good people on Saturday.

Will see you guys tomorrow morning. Will help to ferry people out with the Polaris and the trailer. Can seat two additional bodies up front or can ride on the trailer with gear. I'm bringing burgers and buns if we are grilling. Might even grab some brats too. If someone wants, bring some pop or drinks. Think this going to be a lot of fun for everyone. First Sergeant, see you there. Hope to get there early myself. And get breakfast on the way up LOL.

They have a nice breakfeast place in downtown Culver. I met first Sarge there a couple of years ago before we went out on the ice. Its very good. First Sarge could probably remember the name? What time are you all meeting I was planning on going to the tourney at the big wawa but if my tournament sled is not working I am going somewhere else with my smaller sled that's smooth. I did the NAIFC tourney at Maxi a couple of weeks ago. It was a tough bite. Don't expect to catch a lot of fish is all I am saying.

I was planning on getting up super early and making my own breakfast before I leave. Plan on getting there about 6 anyway. Get the Polaris unloaded and the trailer hooked up and gear ready. But if I get there too early, a good cup of coffee and a cinamon roll would be nice. What's your take on this First Sergeant? BTW, got a couple pounds of burger, brats, buns, and chips. Just need a grill and someone with some drinks. This going to be a fun time I think. As for catching fish, pffft, we'll catch fish LOL
