While it might not necessarily be the most convenient method, you could take the shell off of your shanty and fold it, and put it into one of those big zip-loc bags (the really big ones used for clothes, blankets, etc...).  Make sure it's totally dry first.

I asked the same question years ago but in  regard to my pop-up camper.  I have used moth balls then used cedar blocks but then i read on a website called "popup times" to use dryer sheets and so I did. At the end of every season I buy  a box of dryer sheets and spread them throughout the camper. I havent had so much as a "terd" in over 4 years they work great. Just be sure to "air out" before the first time out.

My shed has field mice.  My garage doesn't but I don't want to take up floor space.  I cranked a big eye screw into the floor joist(two story garage) and use a rope and pulley system to lift the clam up and out of the way.  You can make the rope and pulley system or buy it at various places...Cabela's has them with a weight reduction system (more wheels on the pulleys) so you can easily raise and lower the sled by yourself.  My friend does this with his truck cap...he just backs into the garage, lowers the cap onto the truck, puts the clamps on  and away he goes.

I have had my motorhome for 10 years and I also use dryer sheets. Same results not a single terd or mouse.

BAD idea if you have pets. Mouse eats poison and dies somewhere, possibly where your dog or cat can get it. Dog or cat eats poisoned mouse. Big problems for pet owner!

um, right....   but i don't have pets, and it was just a suggestion...   most people would know not to put poison out near pets I would hope...    shame on me.

I hang mine in the off season also. I use 6 screw hooks with 3 ropes going under the shanty. They hook on the other side. I cut 3 short pieces of garden hose to slide over the rope to pad it. I take it down when the ice begins to form and put it up afterwards. Works great and no mice.

No offense intended dude. I just wanted to point that out to pet owners. As long as you don't have any, poison all of those little suckers that you want! ;D

Mice will eat Irish Spring. My Dad tried that approach in his Lund only to find the next spring that the mice had eaten on every bar of soap that he put in there. The dryer sheets seem to work, but a house cat with a full set of claws works better. ;D

I take mine apart and fold up the cover, put it in a garbage bag with some moth balls and just air it out in the fall. Works for me.

CRAP....Me being a ADCO...or a Animal Damage Control Operator, I had to study Mice and what they didn't like at Purdue University. I found out that the Dryer Sheets outperformed anything on the market. They are Cheap and they really do the job.

ALSO...

If you guys and gals want a Cheap Auto Freshener use the Dryer Sheets as well...
They'll keep your car, truck, whatever smelling Really Nice. I use the ones that smell like Flowers..Just don't use Alot of them. All you really need is 2 sheets. One under the Drivers Seat, and one under the Passenger Seat.

They are much cheaper than buying the Pine Trees people buy from the Gas Stations.

I bought a RacorPro PBH-1R Ceiling Mount Bike Lift.

http://www.racorinc.com/products.fx?id=104

Lifts my 1-man shelter up in to the rafters of my garage. I tie the pull rope and another rope I attached to the back of my sled to the brackets for picking up the bike.

Dryer sheets from the dollar store, best deal around.

My wife ended up spreading 110 sheets in our 28' bunkhouse for $2.  What a pain to pick up in the spring!

Put some dryer sheets in my fairing on my harley to keep mice out. They made a nest out of them. They seemed to work in camper years ago.
