Yesterday was the last day of fishing season, in my area, so I went out one last time.
I started fishing at around 2:30pm and fished until 6:00pm.
It was a soggy day on the lake there was a small creek just South of me flooding onto the lake. The water on top of the ice was almost 6 inches deep in places. I couldn't find a dry spot anywhere so had drill in the water. This surface water drained down and away into my ice fishing holes all day long. It looked like a whirl pool with bubbly foam and everything. By the end of the day my 8 inch hole was eroded to about 12 inches. The current that the draining water created made it tough to know when I hit bottom with the light lures.
I fished most of the day without seeing or catching a fish. On my last hour I decide to move closer to shore. Good choice, I started seeing fish. Little perch would come in, eye the lure, and peck at it. I had a fair sized walleye come in, take a fast grab, and then bolted. Then 3 pike. The first one came in watched the lure for a bit and settled on the bottom in the background. It was facing away from the lure and stayed like that for 5 min. Finally it slowly moved off. The second and third pike both came in and made two grabs at the lures. I was able to hook both of them on the second swipe. So in the end I came back with two eater pike.
The first one was 2 lbs.
The second pike was 1 lb.
The limit in this particular lake was 3, so 2/3 was ok with me.
I had a good ice fishing season this year.
I was able to make it out fairly often and usually came home with a few fish each time.
Looking forward to the open water season again. . . 8)
