Wooden rod boxes on Ebay
« on: Jan 16, 2013, 10:46 PM »
Anybody bought one of the wooden rod boxes off the guy on Ebay? I contacted him about making me one but I just didn't know if they were well built or not. They look nice on Ebay but thats not always the case.
 Thanks
  Matt

Nope, but it wouldnt be hard to make your own... I'm making one for my shanty next year for sure. Won't be any pretty oak, because thats not something I need.. but it will work the same.

I have seen his, and it seems like it would be very awkward to carry if you were not in a shanty or had a sled. If I buy a rod box for when I'm not in my shanty, it will be an otter rod case. The otter rod case is WELL worth the money.

I like the Otter but can u get 6 combos in it? It says in the description only two. I need atleast six. I bought a Frabil rod safe last year and it was okay but not built all that great. Thats why I thought about this wooden rod locker. I pull a sled out so there would not be any hand carrying.

Otter will hold 5 comfortably, you can squeeze 6. The good part is that you can back over the rod case with your truck and your rods will still be protected.

I like the Otter but spending the $100 by the time you ship it just sucks. I guess you pay for what you get.

All it took was one time when my sled (behind snowmobile) went up side down on a side hill to pay for the otter box. Saved all the rods and reels!!
