Title: Whats your Favorite ice line?
Post by: 74redone on Dec 02, 2012, 08:33 PM
Well here we are the 2 of Dec. and its 60 outside :'(. I have decided to try some new line on my QT's and Power noodles. I have been using 4lbs. Fireline crystal ice and have had good luck with it. The only draw back is it likes to ice up when your not in the hut. I thought I would get your guys thought before I order.
 Thanks!
  Matt

by far the best thing that I have ever used for pannies~! and its strength is greater than 1lb with a smaller diameter and it has no memory!!! and its only 3-4$ for 500yards!

I use 2lb fluoro for my light jigs and 6lb trilene ice for heavier ones...works well for me! May I also put a question here? I`ve got some 8 and 10 lb hi-vis gold and yellow stren (use it to tie sighters). Is it ok to use it for leaders on my tip ups or shoud I avoid using it for ice fishing for some reason? ???

I generally fish larger fish and use braid.
Last year I tried out Tuf Line Duracast. It performs much better than regular braids as far as icing up is concerned.
With regular braid I had problems with the line freezing to the guides and reel. It also transferred more water to the guides and freezing them closed very quickly.

Duracast is a coated braid that sheds water really well. It does not freeze to the reel or guides and transports much less water to the guides reducing guide icing.

The only minor issue is the coating does create some memory in the cold. Not a big deal when you consider the benefits.
I use line tests from 10# to 24# depending on use.

It has been renamed this year and is now called Duracast Ice and is available in 6#-30# test (2#-15# mono equivilent diameter).

It's a great jigging line and worth a try.   ;)2

I'm not a Tuf Line spokesperson, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night!!!!

I like suffix Ice Magic in 2# and 4# in the tangerine orange, so much easier to see against a white background of ice when tying tiny jigs. I tried the fusion a couple of years ago and its junk, memory like no other. I'm thinking about trying some of the new 832 Ice braid. I use the normal 832 on all my soft water rods and like it a lot.

Let us know what you think about it. I use their soft water line of 832 and love it. I really want to try the ice line.

I really don't have a favorite...I use a lot of different ones, just paying attention to the line diameter and self test line break strengths.

I use a lot of different lines on a lot of different reels, but more P-Line than anything else.  I'd call it my favorite!

No one uses nanofil by Berkly?  I used the stuff in the summer and loved it.  I am using that this year for my ice rods.

I bought northlands flurosilk in 6 pound test and it is really nice. I was using vanish on a few rigs and needed to respool this season. With the vanish I had to really monitor my line as it tended to coil off if you had too much on your spool. But anyway Ive used this northland stuff for a few days on Upper Red and it is really nice. Seems to have low stretch, lots of strength, and it doesnt coil off.

X2! Im not alone! I like how easy it is to see on the ice and it seems to hold up as good as any. I also like trilene micro ice.

I had an awful time with cajun red. The line would just uncoil itself from the spool as soon as I opened the bale. I loved the nano fil this summer but don't have anything less than 8 pound test. I've used fireline crystal the last couple years. Nice and limp but trends to carry water and ice up my spring bobber.

Gamma ICE or Trilene Micro Ice. Both are really good.

McCoy makes a great ice line. I've used it for a few years now, and had no issues. It's a smaller company located in Arizona, but they make some tough fishing lines. We use it on our charter boat, and I've used it for years fishing bass tournaments.

I have been using P Line Flourice. It has been awesome so far. Not much stretch if any and does not ice up. I've been using the 3 lbs and my buddy has been using the 2 lbs and so far no break offs. Line seems to be very strong for its thickness. It does not have a memory problem like a lot of the other lines I've used. I would highly recommend it!

Segaur Invizx, 4 lb.  Will try their 4 lb. red label next as it looks like same properties for less $$$.  Tried 4lb. nanofill for smaller diameter but had a lot of breakage, usually when tightening knot.  Made no difference if wet when tightening knot.  Snapped like it should be a 1 lb, no effort.

P-line, pick you flavor! The rest is fluff, JMO I've tried almost all of the different lines available except the really cheap schitt.
