If there is 4" of snow insulating the ice like Gamehog said longpoint probably no good even with single digits. I see the few days of 40`s wih rain next week. With accuracy of the weathermen I`m not worried about all the ice melting. Probably just melt the snow on top. We were supposed to get at most 8" of snow in Hamburg Thursday, and we got 28" in 6 hours!!

Fished LP this evening with about 80 other guys hahaha. Ice was fine, even saw a four wheeler out there. I measured 6 solid inches and 2-3" of white ice and slush on top. Will be out again in the morning. Wish I knew how Mayville was, but didn't make it that far north. Good luck to all.

Steelie you had 6"of clear? I have gone thru 6" of white ice before, and I weigh 180. Did you get any perch over 7"?

Limited on 8-9 with only a few over that. I didn't find 6 of clear, one limit 2 people

Podted in reports and conditions. I found 5" max. I don't measure that top crusty frozen slush layer that you break through as ice. Ice was layered at shore and there's about 3-3.5" of ice at shore with multiple slush layers.

I've ice fished Chautauqua once a few years ago. We parked at the train musuem in Mayville and walked out to the tent city about 1/2 mile or so out. We fished for about 6 hours and my daughter (about 9 or 10 years old at the time) literally had the time of her life! She (and me too) limited out on mostly perch. That day has set the hook in her for ice fishing! I can't wait to get back out and have another day like that with her! She asks all the time when we can go. I really think she prefers hard water fishing over fishing from the boat in the summer... and it was ll because of that one day.

Same thing for me Tommy T.  Took my 7 year old to Mayville a couple of years ago and she only wants to ice fish.  Couldn't keep the perch off her hook.  The wife will never forgive me though cause she walked my daughter out to me in high heeled boots through 6" of slush!

Seen a lot of reports of people catching keeper eyes. Caught some 12-14" walleye ourselves Saturday... Anyways, I'm seeing lots of reports of keeper eyes. There was talk of dropping the limit from 18" to 15". Not sure how many people are aware that the limit has not changed. Would hate to see somebody get a ticket for not knowing what's true and what's not. Saw some Walleye coming off the ice that certainly didn't look 18" that's for sure... Hope people read and know the regs before they go out there.

Just a heads up that the DEC was out at long point yesterday. Limit is still 18 inches plus and 3 total per angler.

Yeah - I saw them making the rounds too. They checked our creel when we got to the road from our spot. The eyes we had were in the 19-22 inch range and they didn't even bother counting the perch.

Back for another season of hard water fishing , hoping the ice makes it through this upcoming wk . Assuming the walleye being caught are the fish that were stocked 2-3 yrs ago. Anyone know if anymore walleye were stocked since ?

Make 3 posts and you can access the reports and conditions board for Chautauqua. As for stocking, you should be able to find that information on the DEC website.

I'll give it a try this evening with the kids after school.  Hopefully there's enough biting to keep their attention.

Been to Redhouse a couple times already, decent bluegill, and I heard of a few crappie being caught.  I'm curious about Quaker, too.  Haven't been by that one yet but would like to.

Thanks Ryan, and Earl for conditions and reports. Hope we will be good for the weekend. Maybe one of these years we will see a few 12 - 13" perch! They have to be in there?? I get a few out of a 1/2 acre pond with big walleye, and catfish. My best 1 9 1/2" fat as a beer can! That's after catching thousands. They taste good though!
