Up here in northern Alberta they are known as jackfish, slough sharks, slough snakes, or slimers...
littleoldlady...do you happen to know why they are refered to as slough sharks/ slough snakes? is slough prounounced as sluff or slow?reason i ask...in my profession slough (pronounced sluff) refers to a wound(on a person) and is in reference to yellow , dead tissue. Snot Rocket
Dear SR, It is pronounced "slew"...and a slough is a shallow, weedy lake...pike territory. Hence the name.
