$99 camera
« on: Jan 26, 2013, 10:51 PM »
I picked up this camera a few years ago form Menards and it has been great, especially for whitefish, since they can hit so light. Granted it was called Fishcam, not Cabelas, but I recognize the camera for sure. 12 volt, I use my Marcum battery for all day use. If you're on a budget it's worth $99.

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

I bought one of these last year. I have only taken it out about 3 times. I get frustrated tying to keep it trained on my jig.It probably would be more useful with the compass that helps to position the camera at the hole.  I recently found out that the camera actually is color.  It is just the monitor that is black and white.  It would be nice to find an inexpensive color monitor to hook up to it.

Color camera wow. I have the same problem with is not wanting to stay on my jig when I fish on a river. The current will switch from time to time, and it is frustrating. The compass does help, but I also cut the fin off of the back and it is easier to control. I'm thinking of adding some rods (coat hanger maybe) that would stick into the sand and hold it in place.

A camera is just a waste of time without a compass, just rig something up if you have to, I made mine from scrap wood in about 5 minutes.

As to the color camera, does it just have a standard RCA video in on it anywhere?  If so you can get a color camera with like a 60ft cord from E-bay for about 80 bucks.  If my aqua vu ever dies I'm going to just build my own 10" color setup and save a ton of cash.
I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess.

Wonder if you could use an old portable DVD player monitor and hook the camera to that somehow.

Sorry I read the original post bass ackwards.  If the color camera on your unit has just a standard RCA video connector you can get a color 12v LCD for a car to hook up to it.
