Update to last year's sonar box remedy
« on: Jan 12, 2011, 09:52 PM »
Last year I tucked my HBird 383c into a Flambeau shotty shell case, it worked but after a season's use it had its drawbacks, mainly it was cumbersome and impossible to hole hop with... http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=119880.0

This fall I ended up tossing the tray and mounting the sonar to a baseplate and then to a 4" ram mount with 1" ball.  The mount was bolted thru the bottom of the case.  Battery is wedge mounted with a chunk of high compression foam keeping it in place (lime green cube in the last photo).  Sonar tilts forward for use, leans way back into battery and lid closes easily for transport.  Iceducer, float, and cable tuck nicely in front of ram mount.  I'm going to add a handle to one side or both to make it easier to hole hop with when the lid is open.
