Well she's all locked up as of last night as far as I can see. Hopefully stays cold could be walking out this coming weekend
-
Anybody else itching for some perch action?:P Heard from a buddy there's a 5$ charge to fish at lonies, can anyone shed some light? Dosnt matter as I would have no problem with paying, just wondering
-
Yep, Flash Frozen Perchies are my all time favorite. Is someone charging access to drive on from Lonies? Unless someone owns the Lake, I doubt that anyone can charge an admission fee.
-
Don't fish here but is it possibly some money to Help cover snow clearing costs for access rather than an I own the lake fee?
-
Yeah I kind of doubt it too with the whole 5$ thing, heard the ice is getting thicker thooo, might take a peek tomorrow...
-
I think it's a good idea if they are going to keep the launch clean for easy access. And it's really no different then in the summer time I go to lots of lakes to launch my boat and they have launch fees.
-
Forsure, I think lots of us have dealt with launch fees before... anyways who cares! thats a fee ill pay everytime! was out yesterday for a bit managed to pull 10 in:)
-
this is a fee this guy is putting in his pocket. nobody charges for lake access in winter. not even provincial govt.
-
Yeah, Sounds kinda fishy to me!!! Unless this person or persons own the land to access the lake? ::) :o
-
Sooooo, does anyone know how thick the ice is on buffalo pound? Any shacks yet?
-
I didn't mean it that way guys. If they are using it for a good purpose like keeping the launch cleared and such, then I have zero problem giving $5.00 for that. I have paid many 5 dollar bills for use of Summer launches. No biggy to me. I think we all spend more than that on new lures. line, fuel and other things during the Winter Season. All part of the game.
-
Is there and update on tbickness.
-
Lakes 7 inches and a few perch coming out
-
Never fished Buffalo Pound before. Need some help with places or locations to start. Hoping for walleye and perch. Any advice would be appreciated.
-
Well looks like there will be a charge to access lake through loneys point and sand point. Village of south lake is saying you will need a daily or seasonal pass to drive on. Just thought Id let you know! Was at Valley View and got into some perch:)
-
There are lots of spots to get on the lake other than Loneys. It is too crowded and the fishing is better in other areas. Save your money, get away from the crowds and actually catch some fish. Good luck and be safe out there. See you on the ice.
-
how thick is the ice? and where else can you get on the ice besides those two places? would like to try for perch this week ?
-
Ice was about 9 inches at valley view Perch and Pike
-
I heard someone got there thumb cought in a cordless drill type auger at buff this weekend anyone know if it's true and what happen?
-
where can you get on the ice at valley view ?? any ideas? I have bad knees so to walk too far not to good ??? how far from shore ? thanks for all the input..thanks again :) I don't know where Valley View is at BP ??
-
Valley view has a little Boat Launch that you can drive right up to, wouldnt take anything but a sled or a quad right now, your best chances in my opinion are closer to the middle of the lake.
-
was out today. very good fishing but lots of small perch. all in all a lot of fun,, using meal worms, they seem to like them a lot, going to try next week, the ice is about 9 inches.. can walk on easy..
-
had fun today caught a lot of little perch, biteing on meal worms. the ice is thick enough to walk on.. about 9 inches..
-
With all this nice weather hows the ice looking anyone have a measurment.
-
might try tomorrow, have to see if I can make it then will post ??
-
Great day on the ice. Ice thickness 10-11" near valley view. Perch were biting!
-
was at sandy P today lots of small Perch.very nice day, no snow on the lake. ice is plenty thick enough to walk.. try next week. some were fishing close to the causeway, but there is still open water there, too close for me...
-
where is valley view from sandy beach? on buffalo pound?
-
fished off Parkview yesterday. ice was only 9 inches. fishing was slow.
-
Hey guys so with all this nice weather how is the ice coming in from loneys?
-
was out on Friday very nice sunny calm day! they are driving on the ice at Lonneys some are putting their shacks out? ice is about 12 inches, and the crossway there is still open water there but seen some fishing neer the open water??? not for me though.. picks are biteing..
-
Hello fellow fisherman, I haven't been out at all this year but was wondering if the fishing has been good at all so far this ice season at loneys, I was thinking of maybe trying there sometime this week. And is it safe to drive out. Thanks for the input
-
was on the ice and catching small perch. they are driving on the ice and placing their shacks in their spots. ice is 12 inches thick.. good luck
-
fished there this past saturday. caught 100+ perch in 4 hours. non stop action. only 10-20 of them all were 9-11 inches, the rest were tiny. still crazy fun, gotta love buffalo pound for perch, i dont think i've ever caught less than 20 in an outing there.

It's funny. I can barely ever find the perch in summer here, but in winter, as you describe, it's impossible to keep them off the hook.
-
would be nice to catch that many !!! but where? north lake or Loney's or south more ?? might try this weekend ??if you could let me know where? have to fix my tent first? thanks
-
Just saw a pic on facebook of a camper shack conversion floating in the water on buffalo. My guess is the ice is not too healthy.
-
Whose baby is this? Does this qualify for the 1st Darwin Award for 2017-2018. Come on people, its barely been above zero lately!
(https://s7.postimg.cc/wkwbtfe0n/shack.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/wkwbtfe0n/)
-
Wow, seems kind of strange the way the water and ice meet eachother in an almost perfect circle, whoever shack this is must be very upset and petrified at the same time.
-
if that thing sinks it'll be a heck of a spot to fish once it freezes over again.
-
Is this shack for real? Or previous year? It's was supposed to be 12" of solid ice. Shouldn't have thawed out that quickly!!!
-
Just saw a picture of another shack with a wheel sticking through the ice on buffalo requesting the owner get it the hell out there. No name or address on the shack.
-
This is real. Nobody should be thinking there is any "solid ice" when we've had whole days around +4. The ice was inconsistent before and even more unstable now. Even up north they've dealt with inconsistencies of up to 10" of ice depth, not to mention that white ice has less than half the capacity of clear solid ice.
I would advise not driving on any lake until we have our weather stabilize for a few days.
-
Was out on Tues and there was a camper by the river causeway. Is this the one.? There are many out by Loneys. Hope they are good? Would like update on how the ice is ? Safe to drive from there? To Sandy point!!!! Want to go Saturday ???.
-
just my outside opinion but you guys down south would be crazy to drive on after these temperatures AND seeing pictures of a camper shack submerged.
-
That shack that broke through was just west of park view and I had talked to a couple of guys today that went to loney’s Last night and said their shacks were starting to sink into the ice a bit and had a hard time pulling them off. Too much flood water on the ice from what I’ve been told. Be safe everyone!!

Some of the locals pulled 6-7 shacks off of the ice near Loney's to prevent them from breaking through and sinking. It was nice to see people lending a hand to others using the lake. Any word on the shack by Parkview? Has it been pulled out yet? The sun reflects off the shack and thins the ice out all the way around. It doesn't take long in these temps for things to get dangerous. Hopefully we get the cooler temps next week.
The launch pass for Loney's and Sand Point is 40$ for the year (Summer and Winter seasons) and is available through the Resort Village of South Lake. Fees go to maintain the launches.
-
It's better to pull them off for safety reasons,! I wonder still thick enough to walk ? I see 2 big pike were caught this am ,so I presume he walked ON???

Realonebigfish welcome to the forum! Those are a couple of nice pike. Did you catch those jigging or on tipups? How is the ice conditions out at BP?
-
Wanting to go Monday is it ok to walk on ??????? Just for a few hours??? Could someone post if it is ok to walk on ???? Thanks
-
We caught the pike using tip-ups. There were trucks on the ice, but we just walked on.

There was around 30 cm (12") of ice in front of the provincial park yesterday when my son and I went out.
-
Anyone been out these past few days thinking maybe after Xmas ???😁😀
-
Lots of ice 18 in lots of shacks and vehicles on the lake
-
Drove across the causeway on the way home today, shacks as far as you could see either way.
-
Great day on the lake.

Was out again today, marked a few decent sized walleyes but they weren’t interested in anything, very slow day
-
I was out at Loney's Point on Sunday fishing for perch and managed to land these two.

-
Does anyone know if you can get on the ice with a car ??? thanks would like a reply,,
-
Yes. Access on at pretty well any boat launch. No snow accumulation to worry about.
-
Parkview was pretty good today. Couple decent sized pike (30 inches) and as always, too many perch to count.
-
If anyone is willing to answer some questions I have regarding buffalo pound please send me a pm. Not looking for hot spots or coordinates. Just some basic lake questions. Thanks.
-
Went out to Buffalo pound for the first time. We fished in the middle of the town at Loneys point.. I think we caught 25 or so good size perch. Some cloudy ice I was a bit nervous about, my im sure it was fine.
great day, Thanks for the good info posted. Definitely helped out.
-
I seen today on facebook a camper blowing on the ice down the lake... someone recorded it.. it was ok it didn't tip over..
-
I drove out at loneys last night there was one little wooden shack gray colour on its side, then a big skid shack type was blowing apart and a mess around it. Sucks when the wind gets like this
-
Is an extension needed at loneys?
-
hows the fishing?
Better at loneys or Parkview?
-
Was out at Parkview for a few hours yesterday. Caught a few perch but was pretty slow.
-
Finally made it out to Buffalo Pound to have a go at the perch. We went on at Valleyview and did the "this looks like a good spot". Turns out it was. We caught 1 fish at the 12" mark and the rest were considerably smaller. Likely caught about 40 fish total in 6ish hours. The bite wasn't crazy but there was never more than 5 minutes without a mark on the flasher. Very happy I finally made it there, won't be the last time.
-
Is an extension needed at loneys?
It will be close. I have put my 6" extension on so that the housing of the Jiffy doesn't get wet when I am pulling it back up. You can get through but it will be close to touching the ice.
-
Fished Valleyview and Parkview areas the past couple of weekends seeing how slow LML has been lately but we shall return to the big water come March. Buffalo Pound is new to me until this year and if your looking for perch action this lake is your best bet, but with that said it's like any lake and it can be Oooooh so quiet as well. From catching 50-60 perch in 3 hours one day to barely a limit of 10 the next I found it's just a matter of moving around a bit and you should be able to catch your limit of 10 most days. Granted the fish are generally smaller than those found in LML it makes for some great action for the young and old fishermen in your group. Just need to find the walleye and Pike that I hear so much about and it really could be your Full Meal deal ice fishing lake.
-
Slow slow slow by the pump house today. One small perch and one small pike in 5 hours.
-
I was out by Loney's point this morning. The perch were tough customers but still landed 42 in 3 hrs, as well as a nice solid sucker. It put up a great fight.

Any update on access at Loney's? Is there a clear path or is a snowblower required?
thanks
-
Hey Rapripper I heard some good souls blew out the drive on access at Loneys and it's all good to go as well as the parking lot got pushed out I guess, but once your on the lake your all on your own. Pretty heavy going I understand but with 4x4's and as soft as it is it shouldn't be an issue. One good wind to harden it up and it'll be a different story. Good luck...the weekend weather sounds promising.
-
Thanks Foozie, Pulled a buddy's shack off yesterday without much issue, not as much snow on ice as we expected. Thanks to the crew who cleaned up the launch/ramp area and the parking lot!!! Valley snow removal crews make city of Moose Jaw's look pretty weak. Good job folks!
-
A couple of 12 year olds with shovels make Moose Jaw's snow removal look weak! ;D
-
can a 4x4 get on the ice,?? oh forgot to mention an old Ford 150 1997 ???? ha . wouldn't mind trying to get on maybe wed or thur, posibly sat or sun... would like to know... are their trails ??
-

I was at Loney's point on Sunday and 4x4 should have no problem getting around the ice. Fishing was good too.
