it refers to putting the bait in the strike zone and leaving it perfectly still until you get a bite, also works great for those finiky gills........MM

Its along the same lines.. dead sticking made simple, is a line in the water that's held perfectly still.

Even if you're jigging and leave your presentation sit dead still for a length of time, you're dead sticking.  I always say less is more when jigging walleye through the ice.   ;D

Dead sticking can be anywhere using anything.  Many guys use it either in or next to their shanty.  You can be actively jigging in one hole on the right side of your shanty and have the "dead stick"...line,rod/reel or rattle wheel on the left side of the shanty with a live shiner....dead bait ready for another strike.  Keep in mind your states laws as that "dead stick" will be another line that is counted.

Always  have one line out dead sticking whenever I am out fishing and it is usually the most active.

I jig with something big angry flashy and rattley to call in the fish and if they don't feel ambitious enough to bite on that I leave them a nice easy, natural looking minnow on the smallest jig the minnow won't swim away with on a second line. Rattle reels are great if the fish are big enough but not very effective on finicky panfish in which case I'd use a slip bobber

In michigan with a 3 pole endorsement I always dead stick to 30inch rods, on my right and left. I leave them in rod holders and dead stick; i have had very good success on perch and crappie with this method.

I usually jig the third rod, running the dead sticks either above or below when I am jigging. Dead sticking is excellent for suspended fish or just a foot or so off bottom.

Dead Sticking is just a fact of nature for any ageing male.  Thankfully there is a little blue pill for that.

At least it won't rot like a banana and fall off.
