Warmer weather on the way
« on: Feb 12, 2014, 08:50 AM »
Well looks like warmer weather is on it's way.  Cant say we haven't had good ice.  If they are right it will be in the 40's after this weekend through the end of March.  To bad the fishing hasn't been the greatest this season.  Looks like it will be time to get the boat ready to go.  Be carefull with the warmer weather, stay safe.

March is predicted to be colder than normal so I think getting the boat ready is a bit premature.

We have 18" of ice, bring on the warmer weather.  It will be nice to fish in decent weather and it will make drilling much easier.

We have enough ice to go through march if the highs are in the 40s and lows around 30.

Sw is still in good shape.  And yes it has been one if not the best season I can remember
I think you guys in qc have way better ice than we do     Kevin23 gave me a heads up on a pond when I traveled east a few weeks back and could not believe how much ice you guys had over there

;D That is one of the spots with LESS ice in the area. I drilled a spot on sunday and the power auger was below my knees. Only about 9" left before an extension was needed.  ;)

Never trust the weather man more than a few days out.  The only occupation I can think of that you can be wrong 50% of the time and still have your job.  lows below freezing.. My boat will sit where its at for some time.

Already changed the forecast. Highs in the low 40's and lows below freezing each day. Rain only twice in the next 10 days and both nights in the 20's. The ice isnt going anywhere with that forecast!

I watched 2 guys drive out into the ice in Sabula yesterday, it's been a while since I've seen that, I think the ice will be around for a while. Thinking (hoping) it will still be safe into mid-march.

I don't know about the fishing not being so great, sure there have been slow days, but I've never had such a great season as this one. The last few weeks have been phenomenal.

I ain't scared. I think the last day on the ice for me last year was March 7. This year will have to be at least two weeks later unless near shore ice gets weird.

I see the 8-day forecast is slowly moving colder....of course I don't really look past 3 or 4 days anyway.

20"+ of ice here last weekend.

My boat is staying right where it is parked for a while yet.

Normally the forecast if more than 3-4 days out , they just get everyone excited for either ice or spring, don't pay much attention to it, they always seem to get warmer or colder the closer it gets!!   Very few extended forecasts are accurate!

Highs upper 30's and low 40's, lows in the 20's... I don't think the ice is going anywhere. 10 day shows highs in the low 20's and lows in the single digits starting sat. This week will take care of the snow and next week will make more ice.  ;D

I don't think its time to pull the boat out yet... unless you want to use it to carry your ice gear for the next 30 days.

tomo if you think the fishing has been bad this year you need to learn how to fish

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

This warm spell is going to make the fishing even better than it is already .  I fished all weekend last week and the fishing was tough I had to work hard to catch 60-70 fish a day but the warm spell should get things back to normal 100 + fish a day  :icefish: :icefish: :icefish:

Yup. Oxygen levels were getting very low in a lot of waters.

This will clear off the snow and let some light in to the water and get plants growing a little again.

Getting some runoff in will help as well, even if it makes for cloudy water for a few days.

I agree....the longer the ice the better!  Hoping the snow runoff up under the ice helps pick the fishing up a little.  :)
