KDrill - Dewalt Question

Hello Everyone.

I have recently purchased a new 7.5" KDrill. I have a Dewalt DCD996 and lots of 5AH batteries.

How does this setup work in the cold? As well would buying a Flexvolt 6AH battery be worth it?

That set up should be fine . As for the  Flexvolt 6ah battery ..you will get more run time/more holes ..but not certain any more power ..Dewalt new 998 and 999 drills are suppose to get more power with the Flexvolt system and still run with the other batteries as well just not the "extra" power. One drill is sold at Lowes exclusively and the other at Home Depot exclusively. Its all a little foggy to me on the actual UWO with regular batteries on the 998 and 999. Good luck with your set up.

as far as the cold ..keep the batteries on your person or in a insulated lunch bag..I have used the soft case that Dewalt gives you with success also ..adding chemical hand warmers is an option too.

ihave the same drill and the same kdrill and it worked just fine but the kdrill auger used alot of batt. power didnt like that. Tried a laser 8in. and much better performance and cut much faster and got at least 20 more holes with the lazer 8 in. i sold the kdrill . If you wanted to keep the kdrill i would buy the biggest batt. that your drill will take or bring 3 to 4 5amp hr batts.

I have 5 or 6 batteries - But want to be as light as possible. (The reason why I am switching). Just wasn't sure I needed to buy a flexvolt battery ($$).

I'll try using a warming bag!

I've found the Nils to be much better on batteries than the K drill

I use 4-6amp dewalt batteries all winter and never bring them inside for work and they work just fine never have an issue with power. I leave my drive and auger set up in the ice drill a hole 1/2 in and leave standing up and then I just put a bag around it . But leave the battery on it

Started with the kdrill clam plate setup and a dewalt 996 with 5ah batteries. Got a 9ah flexvolt battery the next year, and it worked a lot better. The 5ah batteries always seemed to make the auger catch at the bottom of the hole, The flexvolt seemed like it produced a touch more power. I have since gotten a lite flite and don’t have the issue with either battery combo. Even with he flexvolt/kdrill combo I could barel use up the 9ah battery in a day.

i took 2 5AH milwaukees out with me and my kdrill and felt like i could get around 750" of ice with 1 battery.
