Can we make a sticky to this SD GF&P page regarding the non meandered waters information? With a lot of out of state ice fishermen traveling to SD, it's important that everybody takes the time to read through the current rules and closures.

FYI to those of you who aren't up to speed:
The state has been dealing with water held in public trust over flooded private land for a long time and recent changes to the law have affected some bodies of water. The links above will explain the closures, land owner responsibilities for marking closed waters, and a general overview of the laws. If you have a question regarding access, post it here and we'll see if we can get you clarification. Thankfully, this process has gone fairly smoothly considering the contention on both land owner and sportsman's sides, and very little non meandered water has been affected, but there are some fisheries that have partially or completely closed.

Write the senators on the senate ag committee to support SB 199 tonight!!! this is are only shot at a fair balance bill. Be nice.

Not much changed as they kept the law enacted last year permanent now and if petitioned for a water to be closed it will be reviewed and if approved will be posted, etc,,, I do not think the issue was really resolved as there is still gray areas in my view. Will see how it shakes out this summer with a few of the lakes as the "marking" of a closed lake is not clear cut in my eyes depending on how you access it. Part is closed, part is open,,, Not good....

Any new info on closures and restrictions? Coming up after Xmas for a couple weeks to ice fish.

Go to reply #3 above and click on the link.

Thanks ice dawg. I have looked at that already and am wondering about north Hazleton. Last year part of it wasbouyed off. Is it all open this year?
-
That part is no longer fishable. It’s closed off 😢
-
According to the closures map above (link in response 3) hazeldon appears to be 100% open. Either the map is outdated, or the lake appears to be 100% fishable.
-
I just checked the current closures map on the GFP website and there is no closed water around Hazeldon. My best guess is, if it can be accessed legally the lake is fully open.
-
I would bet many land owners are simply waiting for "good ice" before installing any closure signs. Keep checking the GFP map throughout the season, they will update it as fast as they can after being notified by a land owner of a closure and verifying it's legally marked.
