I've never fished the western side of the lower basin. I normally stick to the eastern side. That said I have thought of taking the wheeler off at browns and shooting across to the west. Never been that far on that lake on the ice. Is there anything I should know? Pressure cracks, bad ice, etc in the middle of the lake?

A lot of springs over on the west side (really bad by the Kay but there are some around Riley's cove and that area as well). They are in the same places every year. Just be careful.

The lake was in great shape last weekend. I had 14" in my holes and trucks were driving in several different areas of the lake- the specific area your asking about was littered with shanties, no major concerns that I know of. After this warm up I think conditions are likely to change pretty quickly and daily.

Be nice to get a cold snap after all this junk melts.  Can't bear the thought of having another early ice-out

Lake is fine. This weather has had no effect besides melting snow. We had 13" on Monday. Most years ice out is April. I'm sure near some run offs or springs may be different but overall lake is solid

Two Questions:

How is the access by Fitch after the warmer weather? I want to go and try for one last trip tomorrow.

Also, the past couple of times I have tried to locate some specific spots on Saratoga the actual depth and the depth on my navionics map have been drastically different. Am I in the wrong spot or is the lake just really low compared to the maps?

. We were fishing 8' other day and according to navionics said we were in 12'+. Its basically a flat w some humps. Flasher gives best idea of what's what. I really don't see this current/past weather effecting ice locally besides some puddles on lakes. The river in stillwater is still locked solid in most parts. Has been some days in  40s but thats not that warm. Nights have below freezing and forecasted well below freezing this week.  When the puddles dissappear and ice turns bluish then its close to over. I am  NOT saying dont use caution but we fished week ago and guys were driving on it (never recommend it though) . I still have snow in my yard and I live 5 miles from lake. Next week calling for 50s. That will probably start to wear down some ice. Also the run offs will be picking up from snow melt making ice block rise. Usually early ice out is mid March and late ice out 1st week of April.

Where do you park to access Fitch Rd.?  I know I used to park along the road but the last few times I've driven by I haven't noticed anyone parked along Fitch.  I really dont feel comfortable parking on the ice.  Thanks for any info.

I have parked along the side of Fitch 4 times this winter. There was a long line of vehicle parked each time I was there. That was before people were parking on the ice though and when a lot of other lakes were not being fished yet.

Found mine about 4 ft off at snake hill also. Thought maybe lake dropped?

Fished off of Fitch today in about 15 FOW. Managed 3 perch in 2 hours. Shanty stayed up in the wind which was a positive.

Ice was slick! All the junk melted off and the top froze after yesterday.

Ice was in good shape. 3 inches of white and about 14 inches of black.

Looks like a huge pressure crack on the eastern side of the lake as you drive up 9P.

Don't forget the creepers as the ice is bare and uneven making the walking treacherous to say the least. Good luck.

Somewhere near the mouth of the Kaydeross.   There's lots of gas holes between the Kaydeross and the Condo Complex, and the ice gets fuinky around the mouth of the Kaydeross this time of year.

Skim ice on the south end of the lake this morning.  We're getting close.  I won't be fishing for a while, hip replaced a week ago.

Well need to start again. What little ice that formed is now gone. Warmer sunny day today and the wind, busted it all up
