Well there really wasn't very much ice. Northville end was open down to campsite and the main lake was open on Christmas day.  As of about noon today it looked like just slush most places. It has about stopped snowing and we are due to get some cold temps. Have to hope for the best....hunts2long

some of it had to lock up over night, we have some very cold weather headed this way. Even here in Ct the guys are starting to hit the small ponds. I have been checking and adding to my gear,At my size you do not want to be the first one on the ice.that 2 1/2" stuff does not fly with me. I like to target Walleye and those spots are not ready yet,but will be soon

Was up to Sacandaga today around Mayfield.  The main part of the lake was locked up as far as I could see.  Looked like decent dark ice.  Smaller bays were covered with snow.

I wasn't fishing, and couldn't say how thick the ice was.  Getting close!

Drove up to Sacandaga yesterday to check conditions, ice around bridge looked unsafe, pressure cracks and mixed coloration, lots of open water off boat launch on North Shore Road. Noboby out there, not safe on main lake yet, but with temps in single digits at night, ice should be good in bays soon.

Sac is a big lake it will take more time than the smaller lakes.the last thing you want to hear is that someone went through and died. Its bays should be ready this weekend. The main body of the lake may not be. with the temps you guys are getting up there it will not be long.

Checked a spot on the south end today and was baffled to find it had only gained about a 1/2" between monday morning and this afternoon to make it a total of a very sketchy 2".   With the temps we have had the past couple days I thought for sure there would be 3-4".  odd year for ice making....

'Cause they are draining it. Movement of any kind impedes ice formation, even if it is under the ice.

Lake level is just about normal for this time of year if you look at the avg. over the years. It has dropped some in the last week, but it was up because of the rain a couple weeks ago. It will level off now, but won't be coming up any, unless we get warm weather and rain. Then it won't matter...hunts2long
