Title: Snow
Post by: BIGDEERHUNTER63 on Jan 04, 2024, 02:21 PM
Snow , anywhere from 3 in. center of the state to 9 or 10 in. in the north east corner of the state . Then rain and flooding for 2 more storms . The Artic air will go right to southern Texas as said before and not come here . or at least not till the 3rd or 4th week of Jan. if then.

Got up this morning to over a foot of snow on our deck up here in the Poconos. Fortunately there wasn't any ice on the lakes yet.

Nice to see you on the board Spider, thought for sure Promised Land would have a small layer of ice but with heavy snow on top of it that would have been trouble. Better it was still open especially with 2-3 inches rain predicted Tuesday. Keep up the great updates as always ;D

I hate to “rain on your parade” guys, but the lakes in Eastern Pike were capped on Friday. This was our smaller community lake:

This lake is usually 1-2” behind Promised Land and Tobyhanna so I suspect Promised Land was also capped. I heard Tobyhanna had 2” on Friday near the shoreline............. ....

After this snow I’m thinking most lakes have about 6” or more of slush on them now.  ::)

This is what it looks like today. About 4” of slush

Hopefully the rain melts it all & you can start over from scratch  ;)

yep, I hadn't been up to PL, but all the lakes in this general area were either open or just barely crusty. I'm hoping that if there was anything on the lakes it isn't enough to hold this snow. I hate slush sandwiched with ice.

Hey Blue, good to see you too.

Yep! Slush is no good! But I think this rain (and higher temps)we are supposed to get (3-4”) may get rid of the mess.................. .🤞🤞🤞

The problem with 3-4 inches of rain is it will raise the water level and warm the water temp, so cold weather is very important to get back to freezing water temp.

Yes, but cold weather is (hopefully) only a week away! 🤞🤞🤞

Well, the slush on top of the ice melted and then refroze overnight. Ice was hard and 35* this morning. Hopefully lakes will stay capped until we get the REAL cold weather on Sunday! 🤞

Just hope we don’t get a lot more snow on Tuesday/Wednesday.............heard possible coastal storm again!  ::)

Everybody's chompin' at the bit, rightfully.

But remember, be safe.

Give Mama Nature some time to do her thing and help make you safer.  Be sure you're coming home with that loaded stringer, not being fished out by the VFD...

There ain't no fish, or day of fun, worth a tragedy...

Stopped to check our local lake after work about 7pm. 37* and ice was hard with no puddles on top. Only 1” at shoreline but more about 2’ out. Maybe 2 and 1/4”

It’s shallow at the beach so I tried standing on it but broke thru. (In Knee high boots) Not ready but close!  @)

I think it will stay capped until the really cold temps hit Sunday. 👍
Might be fishable by the end of next week! 🤞

Nice video Rutt. I’ve been ice fishing 45 years and still watch these as reminder to myself not to be stupid.

Agreed Rutt..
I carry and use the heavier Eskimo spud bar as well..  It is a bit heavy but you know when you strike that ice it will go through if its still too thin.

On the Plus side, I do take a ChaPru too and he always walks 10 steps ahead of me  !!!!! ;D ;D  :roflmao:

Thanks for the updates. I’m getting on the road from South Jersey to Hawley now and want to get in my driveway before it freezes up.
