Wire clips
« on: Dec 27, 2003, 11:02 PM »
Pros and cons to using ? Should I be tying directly to my jig? This is the very small clip that holds on ice jigs instead of retying all the time when changing lures. Fishing for gills and crappies in shallow water( 1 to 5 ft.) thru the ice.Water is starting to get very clear and whats the opinion out there as for as getting more bites with our without it on? Our just don't worry about it,I use it now but he bite is getting slower by the day as winter goes along. Thanks BassBull

Bassbull, I always go directly to the lure.  The convenience of the snap is nice.  It also adds a bit of an audible rattle which could at times be benefical.  It does however inhibit the jigs action, and if you're after finnicky biters it gives the illusion of more size which you don't want.

I think it comes down to how aggressive the fish are.  If they'll hit it then go for it.  If you need to downsize because the fish are not aggressive than lose the snap.
Like anything else I guess you just have to experiment.
